Forums - Gaming - PS3's future

If you are having second thoughts of buying one then just don't buy it or refrain from doing so. You might end up regretting it. Just buy an Xbox 360. The way I see it you don't care to Blu-ray that much. You'll save more money.

To tell you honestly, Your question is very annoying.
Friendly advice: Just be a smart buyer. That's all you can do.

I'd wait for a price drop if I were you. We will know its future better then.

I don't need your console war.
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor.
You're power hungry, spinnin' stories, and bein' graphics whores.
I don't need your console war.

NO NO, NO NO NO.

I've posted this same thing in a few other forums because I want to get as much feedback as possible, so please don't flame me for trolling or fanboyism.

I graduate from college in about six months and I really want to buy a PS3 with my own money once I start working. But the way things are going for it now (lack of exclusivity of MGS and FF, developers like Activision threatening to stop development, ridiculous price with no indication of a price drop in the near future, dead last in sales rates and totals, etc.) is there any reason to believe it has more than a year before it goes the way of the Dreamcast?

Again, I'm not trying to troll or be a fanboy. I just want to get as much info as possible from as many places as possible.

Why would the lack of exclusivity of MGS or FF be a concern?  Those franchises are still releasing on the PS3.

The price may drop this year, but there aren't any guarantees.  Like any consumer decision, you should consider the price/value as it currently stands.  If you don't feel the value justifies the price, don't buy it.

Why do you care if it is "dead last in sales"?  The system still moves a lot of units, it has already passed the Dreamcast sales and will pass the original xbox/gamecube in sales this year.  In previous generations the Playstation has dominated in sales and caused third party developers to provide exclusives for the platform.  This generation is different.  All third parties develop their games for multiple platforms.  The differentiator between th systems are the first party games.

Thanks for the input, Jeff.

why would u want one?

:S

just get an xbox natal is th future

Sometimes I really miss the good old days; when internet opinion did not affect every purchase decision. I know, I know, I'm old, but hell I owned a Sega Genesis with the Sega CD attachment and LOVED it. Even bought a Saturn and loved the games on that as well.

Popular opinion will tell you that attachments are not supported and that the Saturn sucked; I was blissfully ignorant of those two "facts" and just enjoyed the hell out of what I owned.

So where am I going with this? It absolutely does not matter if the PS3 is in last place; they have fantastic 1st party support and eventually will lower the price to mitigate the cost barrier to entry. If the games on the system interest you, buy one and enjoy it for the games it plays, not the sales numbers it generates.

I find that anyone who starts a thread and declares that they aren't a troll is usally still a troll. That being said the PS3 isn't going away anytime soon. Sony has a history of supporting their consoles (as well as their other products) long into the life of the following generation. Not to mention that the PS3 is not really struggling as bad as the media implies.

Good thing the Ps3 is already passed the dreamcast then eh?

Sony also has a history of making successful consoles, that sell well even in the following generation.

Currently, nothing suggests that this will happen to the PS3, since its weekly sales are close to the PS2's, EVEN RIGHT NOW!

If the PS3's sales will decrease later in its lifespan, Sony won't have a reason to keep it on the market, like its more successful predecessors.

Ps2 just got a Price drop 2 months ago, but of course that has nothing to do with it. LOL ...oh wait. I just looked at WW sales... Ps3 is almost doubled Ps2 sales. OVEREXAGERATION FOR THE WIN!

Bill Gates? Is that you?

If you think the PS3 will go the way of the Dreamcast you might want to get your numbers correct first:

The PS3 has already in 2 years sold more then the Saturn and Dreamcast combined.

The PS3 has sold more then the Gamecube did in 5 years.

The PS3 has sold millions more then the 360 had at the same point in it's lifecycle.

The PS3 is still $200 more then the entry priced 360 with plenty of room for pricecuts.

So why would you assume the PS3 is going the way of the Dreamcast? Because you're trolling? Oh but you said you weren't trolling so you can't be.

And the Videogame market has grown 20 times since the saturn and dreamcast days so saying that means it is doing crap!
