Forums - Nintendo - Conduit: Kinda fun, but underwhelming and outdated.

Well it’s a Wii game what ells cold you expect? Of course it is going to be crap!

I have read a few bad things about it but I will still buy it! It looks fun and even if it is like a lot of the other FPS games I don’t care. Nobody complains about other games that are the same when it comes to other platforms…

I was seriously torn today between getting The Conduit or getting Grand Slam Tennis.  Man...I should've gotten tennis.  Let me start off by saying I think that Metroid Prime 3 is fantastic (I plan on getting the trilogy) and so is Medal of Honor Heroes 2, so my feelings on The Conduit so far have nothing to do with "being spoiled" by the HD FPS games.  The graphics are blah.  Bland repetitive environments.  I thought this was supposed to be a stunning looking Wii title.  The gameplay/controls are blah.  Same few enemies over and over with pretty stupid AI.  Why can't I twist the remote or nunchuck to lean out of cover like in MoHH2?  Health pickups?  Are you kidding me?  Get up to speed with modern shooters that have regenerating health.

Since there's some fun to be had, I'll definitely stick with the game and beat it at least once, maybe twice to get my money's worth.  Most likely, this one won't earn a permanent spot in my library.  It will probably end up as trade fodder towards a more worthy title.  Don't believe the hype on this one.  Sorry, I know I'll probably take a lot of heat for this.

Does it looks better than Halo: Combat Evolved?

Why? You can customize your controls and the customization is the best that I saw in my entire life...

The controls are the best controls for an FPS EVER, IMHO.

At least so far, I think MoHH2 controls are better.  I thought for sure I'd be able to lean out from cover.

Can't you just strafe, go back, then straffe again? I really don't get why people find leaning mechanics so interesting... The customization goes far beyond anything comprehensible. You get to set your own dead-zones, set all sensetivities, speed, map out everything, completely move/fade/remove your HUD, and MORE! It's amazing! I wish every wii FPS in the future would give you this much customization...

I thought I'd be able to set actions to a whole array of motions.  I already mentioned I want to lean out of cover.  I also would like to be able to set reload to a quick shake of the remote.  The only motions they give you are a throwing motion for a grenade and a thrust motion for melee.

You can't do that because Reload is the same button as pick up a new weapon... but you have to hold it...

...and another thing. Why can't I set crouch to toggle? This was a major beef of mine for the original Resistance on the PS3 as well.

Eh, I kinda wanted this too, but to me, it's no real big deal...

Yes, and better than Halo 2, IMO.

Hey I got a question to ask you. How are the controls? Do they feel comfortable to get used to and by the time when you first touched it, was it difficult or simple to use?

Above I'm a proud Gran Turismo fan, not a Sony fanboy, and now a proud 360 owner, but sharing xbox live accts ATM

End of 2009 Predictions (made Jan 1, 2009): My predictions were pretty accurate, the 360 was over and the Wii was just under.

Wii: 65 mil (yea I'm crazy) 360: 35 mil (its getting there) PS3: 30 mil (the slim better do well)

End of 2010 Predictions (made Jan 7, 2010):

Wii: 81 mil  360: 47 mil PS3: 45 mil

It is a rather bland game. Online is solid and fun, and the aiming is spot on ... but the aiming in Metriod 3 felt better somehow. Don't know why, because again, the aiming in this game is tight. But as the original poster said, it's rather blah. HV blew smoke up our arses when they were like "We don't want to find a distributor yet, until the game is almost complete." for fear they would muscle their way in. Muscle in on what? The most generic of shooters? Graphically, it is nice. Though who ever though bloom effect was a good thing? God I'm sick of looking at neon lights all over the place. There are a few hiccups graphically though. They focused on the enemies, and certain locations. But things like a caved in tunnel, looks faker than all hell. Did they really need to make the rock look real? Well, yeah. I mean if the water looks amazing, why not make the rock look like rock? Not some wallpaper looking thing. I doubt it would tax the system.

The all seeing eye is a total bust. I thought it was more like the Lens of Truth from OoT! Something you needed to move forward, but also to find stuff totally hidden that only the best or the lucky could find. Nope, the thing tells you when you need it by beeping and showing the eye symbol. What's the point of 'hiding' stuff, if it's not really hidden?

Enemies are dumber than all hell. Sometimes I'm looking at something, turn around, and there's a dude there. Kind of admiring me apparently, because he sure wasn't trying to kill me when I had my back turned. So I kill him and move on. The alien enemies are a bit 'smarter' will bounce all over the place, and not just sit there like the humans.

So, do I regret buying this game? No. Any game that allows me to shoot flawlessly with the pointer, is fun. But this game wasn't what it was billed to be. All the reviews that said it's a straight forward shooter. It is. Oh and to the original poster, who complained about health pickups. The game also has you recovering health over time as well. So it has both.

I read the controls on the screen, then tried it out (default), and I could get around fine in story mode, but it wasn't ideal for me... Then, after toying around with it for about 10 min, I found my perfect setup... It works really well if you've played another Wii FPS and know what you want from the control scheme...

I'm not going to give you heat for saying bad things about game. I will give you heat for making a stupid choice. For over 6 months I and others have been saying 1 unanimous voice about this game. It's a generic shooter. The fact that you ignored ratings, FPS veterans, other HD fanbois of your peers you still made the choice to buy this game.  Your post speaks less about the game, but more about you. You wasted your time, forum space for a idiotic choice of your game purchasing behaviour. Which aren't all that flattering in this case.

I fully believe that people should be educated about the games they buy. You were or you willingly ignored everything that was talked about the game. HVS had only 3 primary goals for this game. To prove the game could achieve modern graphical techinues, implement a reasonable AI and fully customizable controls. The game meets these requirements. A good story is an opinion. Gameplay well I don't play generic shooters since Wolfenstien 3d, doom and Rise of Triad. So I know I would avoid this game like the plague. You didn't avoid, but should have based on what you like. Only one reason why you would have continued to buy it.

Squilliam: On Vgcharts its a commonly accepted practice to twist the bounds of plausibility in order to support your argument or agenda so I think its pretty cool that this gives me the precedent to say whatever I damn well please.

You're forgetting the online, jay, as one of their goals, which is supposed to be solid, though I haven't tried it yet.
