Forums - Sony - Analyst: PlayStation Motion Controller better for core gamers than Natal

I cannot see why Microsoft will insist that any Natal game be exclusively controlled by Natal. Rather I suspect they will use a combination of the Natal system and either the original controller or replicas i.e. a gun with a trigger for use in MW for example.

Pretty much a case of wait and see I suppose.

Someone should correct me if i'm wrong but hasn't the core audience stated over and over again over the past couple of year that they have ZERO interest in motion control in their core games - Dual Analogue is the epitome of game controlling and more precise than god?... etc...

No. Only the fanboys that have a problem with Wii.

Motion controls for the core gamer? I will sit on the sidelines to see how that plays out.

@Kowenicki - Natal's slogan is "You are the controller!" That kind of sounds like they are not currently planning on having an additional controller for the Natal system. If MS can achieve 1:1 control without a physical controller, that would be pretty impressive. But as the Sony engineers pointed out, you still need buttons. I think MS will back-pedal a little on this and release some sort of wand to interact with Natal.

Edit: Just to end the debate.

Thanks for the input, Jeff.

Hey, that's what I said... only with more words! I totally agree with you. I'm expecting them to quietly either bring in additional peripherals or to simply ignore their initial statements and have Natal integrate with games using the existing controller (which would be rather nice I think).

But no way are they actually going to throw the controller away despite the slogan.

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

actually the only problem with the wii i had was the graphics and the lack of games that appeal to ME.... now that sony will have motion controlls i will not need the wii... and im pretty exited about that :) (cause i was on the border for a loooooong time about buying it)

Yeah, i think natal needs games specifiably made for it

You sir hit the nail on the head. Games need to be designed a full body motion control, no preset animations. It's a great thing, because devs might actually start moving game design forward. Rather than rehashing current design with motion wands.

Umm... What? So, M$ is after the casual market Wii has, and Sonys controller, that is similar to Nintendos, is better suited for core games.

Good. Finally some analysist who actually said that Wii Remote is suitable for core games. The guy just had to go indirect route, but still.

If Natal ever comes out, M$ will have a lot work to do to get the current console owners satisfied with it, if it's anything like what was seen.

I'm with ya on this one. It's funny how many PS3 fanboys would say back in the day that the Wii-Mote ain't good for their "hardcore" games yet suddenly Sony's Wiimote-Ripped Off version is!

What are you looking at, nerd?

The most telling part of that article......

"We must point out that neither Project Natal nor the PlayStation Motion Controller are finished products, so there's no telling how they might be

implemented in future games. For example, there's no reason that Natal couldn't make use of both motion sensing and traditional control, similar

to Sony's device. Furthermore, we'd say Sony is probably just as keen to capture some of the casual market as Microsoft."

But didn't Microsoft say that their product was superior specificly because it had no controller? Wouldn't putting in a traditional controler not only make them contradict that argument, but severely lessen the difference they want with their competitors?

That's just marketing talk. Natal Guy Whose Name I Forget said that they'd use the controller for core games. Bungie and Epic are supposed to be working on Natal, and I really can't imagine them making controller-free games.

Plus Microsoft would be incredibly remiss not to make their own Wiimote ripoffs to go with it, if for no other reason than to keep from missing out on any multiplatform motion control games.

i agree but it raises a flag of concern for me.

will they use the standard 360 controller?  if so then what the hell can you do with the camera capture except head tracking?  the standard 360 contoller tethers your hands to each other making most gestures impossible to while while still working the controller.

will they use a new 1-handed x 2 style controller like the wii-mote (newton)?  okay - better solution but do i now need to buy both a camera and a new controller and specifically how much are you charging me?

Well, I personally hope they both fail, because I personally dont like motion controls
