Forums - Microsoft - Conviction to run on Unreal Engine 2

Sam Fisher will be back on the screens in Splinter Cell: Conviction which is said to be released in October 2009. Only little information about the latest part of the Splinter Cell series is available, but Ubisoft just gave us some details on the technical aspects.

PCGH: Why did you choose to use Unreal Engine 2 instead of Unreal Engine 3?

Ubisoft: We're using our own engine, LEAD, which is an evolution from the engine used in SCCT.

PCGH: What are the strengths of this engine?

Ubisoft: • Amazing lighting engine, all lights are dynamic in the maps and can be dynamically activated and deactivated.

• A fully dynamic environment

• Latest enhancements, such as ambient occlusion or destructible environment

• Powerful to display a large amount of objects on screen

• Crowd management, even if not core to the gameplay

I thought they said they used their own engine in that actual text.

...it's called the LEAD engine.

WTF bro? You get your topic title from N4G or something?

NO NO, NO NO NO.

Muuuhhh? Zaaaa? I thought Ubi said it is an evolved SCCT engine called LEAD, not Unreal Engine 2.

So, because the ignorant website asks a dumb question that is immediately refuted by the actual developer of the game, that gives you the right to spread the headline around the forums that Conviction runs on the Unreal 2 Engine?

Next time someone asks Kojima when MGS4 is coming to the 360, can I make a thread with the title "MGS4 coming to the Xbox 360!"

Either read the article before you post them, or stop spinning. Conviction does NOT run off the Unreal Engine 2, the developers say so, strop trying to convince people that it does. Just because this game has some deep seeded roots in an older engine, does NOT mean that it runs off that old engine. It runs off an entirely modern engine that might have had its ancestory from the engine you mentioned, and trying to spin the story with a sensational headline is dishonest at best.

NO NO, NO NO NO.

The engine used in SCCT was a modified UE2.5.
