It ended up winning two awards out of it's eight nominations. I'm sorry I just don't know exactly what you meant by the original comment. Did you expect it to get nominated for every conceivable award and win them all, because that just isn't realistic, nor is it very deserving to the other great movies that got nominations also.

The Dark Knight had nowhere near the same level of technical excellence LOTR had and you know it. Everything from the audio, the score, the editing, the costumes, the makeups, etc. were all meticulously done in LOTR and it could have won those awards any year it came out. Notice though, it didn't get a single nomination for acting, while that was an area the Dark Knight won in. Comparing the two is ridiculous, because each excel in different areas, with LOTR excelling more in areas the Academy awards movies for.

Also, just to rub it in a bit, Return of the King won 13 Oscars, not 11.

Hey, I'm not trying to start an argument between the two films. They're both amazing films, and some of my favorite of all time. Though I do think Return of the King could have included the attack on the Hobbits. That was an awesome part in the third book, and it would have been great in movie form (if not anti-climactic).
