Forums - Gaming - Swedish Level gives ToV 5/10, tC 3/10....

That's not exactly what he said, even though it can be interpreted that way. But really, if you have a radically different opinion from everyone else, they ARE wrong. They have all the right in the world to be wrong, but they still are. He didn't say the reviews were bad, or the reviewers stupid. He didn't say he didn't trust those magazines or people anymore. He didn't call them names, threaten with boycott or lament the low quality of reviewers. Much to his credit.

And apart from that somewhat haughty part of the review, he clearly stated what he had problems with and why.

Yep, we killed Descartes!

Huh?

Isnt that the guy who talked about the soul and finking and stuff.

On a more serious note, the reason I can't stand video game reviewers (Swedish and otherwise) is not because I disagree with their opinions, but because I can't stand the way they write their articles. Super Play (Swedish magazine) in particular seems to pride itself on horrid use of puns, misguided popular references, attempted use of "elevated" language (poetry, ugh), tired rhetoric, etc... "And that is why Shadow of the Colossus made smile as I walked down the alley..." No, that is why I think you are a snotty bastard who doesn't know how to write a decent, informative article. See, your shit doesn't smell better because you (attempt to) cover it in roses.

Slimebeast:

Yes, René Descartes was a French philosopher/scientist best known for his theory on the epistemological foundation of human knowledge, often summarized as cogito, ergo sum (I think, therefore I am). He died in Sweden, hence why I mentioned him.

Damn it, I don't follow. Did I use a worn out cliché? Wot was the irony (and what did Descartes refered to)

You gotta xplain this.

It is the manner in which the article was written that makes people cry foul.

"Put the Wiimote to your forehead, Press B". Once you say something stupid like that, I know I cannot take what you say seriously. The guy (from what I interpret) doesn't even like the system he is playing the game on.

No one is forcing me to play on a crappy N-Gage. If they were, I'd hate every game on it. This guy sounds like he is in the same situation.

Sorry, your dual highlight made me think you were pointing out how I (arguably) was acting pretentious myself, hence the "irony."

As for Descartes, quoting Wikipedia: "René Descartes died on 11 February 1650 in Stockholm, Sweden, where he had been invited as a teacher for Queen Christina of Sweden. The cause of death was said to be pneumonia — accustomed to working in bed until noon, he may have suffered a detrimental effect on his health due to Christina's demands for early morning study (the lack of sleep could have severely compromised his immune system)."

As my professor once said, Descartes death was our (Sweden's) greatest philosophical "contribution" until modern times, so I used him as an example of both "import" and "power" (refering back to your original statement).

Did that clear things up?

Yes it did Helios, thank you. ^^

Btw r u a Swede studying in Cambridge or something?

Even though it was a harsh comment, there is some humour in it. If you like that kind of jokes that is. But the game must really suck (which he think it does) to even think of using that kind of comments.
