Forums - Gaming - Final Fantasy 6 Sequel: Would you buy it?

So how would you feel if Square Enix announced a sequel to FF 6 (in the vein of FF IV: The After Years)?

Assuming it was developed by a team who loved and knew the original and it was the top possible quality, would you want this to happen? Would you buy it? Or would even a very well done follow-up ruin the magic of the original?

While I'm very impressed with The After Years and am enjoying it immensely, personally I would not want a similar FF 6 sequel as the game functions beautifully on its own, and to create a sequel would dilute its timeless awesomeness.

Buy it?  I would pay its development costs. And we're talking SE development costs here.

no

No. That chapter came to an end and any spin-offs would just ruin its magic.

What are you looking at, nerd?

This. And a spoilerific reason why to this below.

Kefka is Dead, there's no more Magic, the World is still in Ruins, Terra can live happily while helping rebuild as a normal human. What's there to expand on? Sure. You could argue that there are still monsters about but there's always monsters about in final fantasy. They closed up Final Fantasy 6 very neatly. It's one of the reasons I love it so much.

Why must JRPG female leads suck so bad?

Ironically, my roommates and I were discussing this over dinner last night. We came to the conclusion that no, it doesn't need a sequel, it needs a prequel! Go back about 18 years, recreate the empire coming to power, hell, even allow us to play out the Maudin scene, ending the way we all know already. There was just so much we mentioned that I wish I remembered it all; I'd bundle it and give it to S-E for it to be made!

While I agree, I'm sure that if Square Enix wanted to, they could come up with some sort of justification for a sequel.

I would love to see stories about the state of the world after FFVI. It's the War and Peace of video games -- it deserves to have at least one epilogue, if not two.

The world is destroyed, and the man who did it has finally been destroyed as well... but the themes of the game go much deeper than that, about people coming together and making life worthwhile even after the world has ended. Surely there's room for a story somewhere in that rebirth.

sequel, no, remake on any console? yes. FF6 has one of the biggest scale of story in the history of JRPGs though, they'd have to make it a huge world and epic.

I'd rather just a remake
