Forums - Sales - Activision trying to find out how fast they can kill Guitar Hero franchise?

Number of console Guitar Hero games per year:

2005 - 1 game

2006 - 1 game

2007 - 2 games

2008 - 2 games

2009 - 5 games

Why so many GH games in 2009? How long can they continue milking the franchise before people start getting desensitized to the Guitar Hero name?

I'm also wondering how many GH games we'll see next year...

Here's a good competition, which will die first: Rock Band or Guitar Hero?

"Pier was a chef, a gifted and respected chef who made millions selling his dishes to the residents of New York City and Boston, he even had a famous jingle playing in those cities that everyone knew by heart. He also had a restaurant in Los Angeles, but not expecting LA to have such a massive population he only used his name on that restaurant and left it to his least capable and cheapest chefs. While his New York restaurant sold kobe beef for $100 and his Boston restaurant sold lobster for $50, his LA restaurant sold cheap hotdogs for $30. Initially these hot dogs sold fairly well because residents of los angeles were starving for good food and hoped that the famous name would denote a high quality, but most were disappointed with what they ate. Seeing the success of his cheap hot dogs in LA, Pier thought "why bother giving Los Angeles quality meats when I can oversell them on cheap hotdogs forever, and since I don't care about the product anyways, why bother advertising them? So Pier continued to only sell cheap hotdogs in LA and was surprised to see that they no longer sold. Pier's conclusion? Residents of Los Angeles don't like food."

"The so-called "hardcore" gamer is a marketing brainwashed, innovation shunting, self-righteous idiot who pays videogame makers far too much money than what is delivered."

I was talking to a lot of my more casual gaming friends and they all agreed that Rock Band is now the more popular music franchise and I would have to say that I agree with them.

And the fact that there are FIVE games coming out this year is absurd

Platinums: Red Dead Redemption, Killzone 2, LittleBigPlanet, Terminator Salvation, Uncharted 1, inFamous Second Son, Rocket League

I'm afraid that Guitar Hero is taking down Rockband with it by milking the entire gameplay/style/genre.

I can't believe people still care about Guitar Hero in general. They should collect all the money while they can.

Two Main series Guitar Heroes, Two band-centric spin-offs, two(?) (probably) DS versions, a Greatest Hits version, DJ Hero, the rumored Band Hero...God Damn activision.

Crusty VGchartz old timer who sporadically returns & posts. Let's debate nebulous shit and expand our perpectives. Or whatever.

My local gamestop has made an special area in the store for music games.

I'm really starting to hate the series now. Rock Band too, the whole plastic guitar genre lol. Seeing things so blatantly milked is annoying.
