Forums - Gaming - Would Bionic Commando have sold better on the Wii?

Well, the best way to make Bionic Commando do better would having it not suck. I haven't played it, so I'm not saying it does in fact, suck, but the general consensus seems to be that it does.

Probably, and pretty much for the reasons the OP already listed.

Wha? I have played it and thought it is a great little title.  I very much doubt it would be below 85% on metacritic on gamerankings, who is this general consensus you having been talking to? They need to be shot.

It's at about 70 on Metacritic. A lot of people have complained about, among other stuff, linearity and ridiculous plot points. Personally, as I said, I haven't played it, but I did read up on the ridiculous plot twist and thought it was the dumbest thing I'd ever heard - However, that's no reason to disregard a game. If it plays well, it shouldn't really matter. Most people don't seem to think it does play well, though.

no below average games will not sell on either system and tbh serves them right to bomb because they only released the Demo on XBL not that I care but exclusive demos are just stupid and I hope developers know that by now

@ Majin: You have to wonder if people just don't "get" Bionic Commando. To be fair, a lot of people didn't get it back in 1988 either.

In addition to the swinging being criticized, reviewers also criticize the corny humor and story? Isn't this the same darn thing that reviewers PRAISED Bionic Commando: Rearmed for? So a game can't be tongue-in-cheek unless it's a campy remake of an old series with in-jokes for the fans? This just ticks me off. At least this isn't "Gears of War," where one of the main protagonists gets about 2 minutes of story dedicated to his lobotomized wife he has to put out of her misery. It makes me sick to my stomach that game reviewers will praise something as transparently added for crappy emotional material as that as "deep" and go on to criticize BC for its intentionally corny humor.

Guess one of the problems could be the "multi-media" part of gaming might be kicking in... 'causing a lot of people actually solely to play games for the story/narrative. Gameplay being nothing but a tacked on piece interaction. This while ignoring entirely how generic/outdated/unpolished the gameplay side of things are, 'cause it doesn't really affect them, as they don't really have any idea (or opinion on) what good gameplay actually is...

So, in all honesty, no f-ing way it would have been different on the Wii.

Random game thought :
Why is Bionic Commando Rearmed 2 getting so much hate? We finally get a real game and they're not even satisfied... I'm starting to hate the gaming community so f****** much...

Eh? I see 87 for PS3 version from Metacritic, 85 for the 360 version.  88.35% Gamerankings PS3 version, 87.66% for the 360 version.  Where did that 70 come from? Am I looking in the wrong place?

Bionic Commando Rearmed is a good game why would anyone complain about a sidescroller being linear? Are mistaking someone's minority opinion on the game to be the majority opinion?

Yeah those reasons put together could definitely make it a success...

I don't understand why this game flopped on the PS360. I wonder how much the budget was? Do we know the team size at least?

well i would like to see Bionic Commando Rearmed with additional content(completely new campaign, unlockables etc.) as a retail game more than that 3d fps, tps or whatever that game is. and it would cost much to make considering they have all the game finished - they would need to make new campaign, voice overs and few other things but it still would cost them less than making new wii game.

Yes, people who say no clearly haven't looked at the sales numbers.

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.
