Forums - Gaming - Why will Modern Warfare 2 supplant the original COD4? What feature upgrades

I saw the E3 info on it.  I saw the ads, read some articles, and Modern Warfare 2 looks like it will be great.  However, I believe COD4 is great.  Yes, MW2 will look to improve the graphics, and add a cool continuation of the original story.  However, if the upgrades are merely to the graphics, and a continuation of the storyline, why won't it just be in rental realm?

Anyhow, anyone know what they are talking about as an upgrade to COD4 to supplant it?  In other words, why should I end up getting it, instead of reacquiring COD4?  What will it have to make single player and multiplayer have improved legs?

The new "Special Forces" co-op mode sets it apart.

Its not about the graphics, for me its about going LV 55 10 prestiege all over again.

I think the gameplay and storyline will be 2x better than COD4. I know for sure that the online modes will improve.

^^^ THIS!!!

And we haven't even seen any of the multiplayer yet... one thing's for sure, it'll be one of the deepest multiplayer experiences out there.  Visually the game isn't a huge leap over the last one, but then again CoD4's visuals were arguably the best on a console when it was released, plus with all the chaos on screen and with all the multiplayer modes it is imperative that this game runs at a silky smooth 60 fps at all times!

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.

the microsoft e3 trailer reminded me of nightfire(it was scary)

but i don't think it will live up to the hype. people keep building it up. there is no way that it will make everybody happy.

it willl either change to much and people will complain or change to little and people will complain

The buzz I have seen is people considered it "gimped co-op" mode, and there were rants of "no co-op multiplayer":

http://www.co-optimus.com/article/1782/No_Campaign_Co-Op_in_Modern_Warfare_2.html

It was inevitable that scans of the article would hit the internet, but I think this is some sort of record: this morning an article popped up on hub site Colony of Gamers providing some information gleaned from the magazine write-up. While a few of the details are exciting, it is not all good news.

You see, Infinity Ward has decided to forgo the co-op campaign in exchange for a series of side missions called the Special Forces mode. While the prospect of these co-op missions is interesting, they should not be completely en lieu of co-op in the single-player campaign.

What's ironic is that the developers fully acknowledge that co-op is wanted. I just can't wrap my head around a top-notch development studio asking its fanbase for input and then blatantly appeasing them with lackluster results, i.e. gimped co-op.

Looks a bit like what Resistance 2 did.

Like Nightmare24 said, it's about being able to level up again.

Also, it's about new maps, new modes, new equipment, new perks. Even if this is just an update of CoD4, it'll be worth the full retail price (and not many game companies can boast that about sequels). But luckily for us, IW isn't treating it that way.

And finally, what you said about MW2 can be applied to any sequel that follows the gameplay and plot of the original. You are getting a new story scenario for Uncharted, a new story scenario for Gears, you're getting a fresh coat of paint on GoW from last gen. But you won't hear many people complaining about that because those games are worth it.

the online can look like crap as long as theres the COD4's leveling system ill be very happy, i was addicted to COD4 online

15 days of greatness.

I heard the single player campaign will be around the same length as the first one( We're talking about 6 hours of gameplay)... No co-op in the main campaign is not bad nor great. I have no doubt the game will deliver greatness to it's fans. One question I have is,w ill they put a similar mode like Nazi Zombies in MW2? That mode freakin' ruled, especially Shi no Numa..
