Please don't. GameTrailers does that, and it's so ANNOYING! I just end up putting my birthday as 1st January 1901, because it takes the least time.

I think we can assume that everyone mature enough to not be banned on this site is mature enough to watch a trailer with some gore in it.

you have 2 choices.

1) we only host T and lower rated videos. Also, any RP video also may be on the blacklist.

2) we add an age gate and host M rated videos. I want to make a smart age gate that is based on your profile if you are logged in. We would have to check to see if that is allowed by the ESRB.

I'm fine with the age restriction. I'm 18, so I can see most of the restricted stuff on GameTrailers and it's not that big of a deal to me if I can't see a video anyway. Plus, if it's based on my profile if I'm logged in, then I shouldn't have to enter my age every time I want to watch a restricted video, right? That'll make VGC a lot easier to use than GT.

that is what I would like to do, but I have only skimmed through the age gate requirement docs, and haven't looked up the fine details from the ESRB to see if it is allowed under the guildlines. If we don't follow the proper guidlines then we could get in trouble with the ESRB and publishers who are trying to protect their industry by taking matters in their own hands rather than waiting for the government to make laws.




If you drop a PS3 right on top of a Wii, it would definitely defeat it. Not so sure about the Xbox360. - mancandy

And you can lie easily in the GameTrailers age gate, and the ESRB doesn't seem to mind

That's hitting the nail on the head. Do we have to harrass people everytime they try to view a video? Or, is a one-time annoyance allowed...    ...only the ESRB can answer that.

Regardless, it's ridiculous to think either method is effective at preventing people from watching videos - I'm CERTAINLY old enough to be able to watch these videos, yet I lie about my age every single time. Not because I have anything to hide, but because I'm too damn lazy to go through drop-downs to put my actual dob in. I just select January 1, and the first year I come across that's at least 20 years ago - poof. Eh, whatever...
