Forums - Sony - Rumor: $399 40GB PS3 Release Date Oct. 30th

$399? Great deal. Definitely it would energize figures... Plenty of great games on the shelves already and these just around the corner. Extra boost for Blu-Ray standard too. Microsoft won't lower the price of X360 any more. Simply because it sells great (now even better thanks to Halo 3). It would be a direct competition between X360 and PS3 since October 30. Regards line-ups. I have a good laugh when I read about superiority of Wii's stuff over PS3's. Sorry but Wii has nothing to offer for gamers who want shooters, racers or sport games. X360 leads in this genres firmly but PS3 isn't far behind. No big names for Sony this year (Personally I don't believe in GT5 Prologue) but definitely you can achieve a lot with great selection of "just" solid titles (80%+)... BTW we are talking about cheap Playstation... this alone will move few units.

Anyway great time for gamers. If MS lower the price I'll be a bit closer to picking one up. People just can't lose now.

I agree with that.

There are shooters (CoD, Metroid?, etc..), racers (can't think of any "good" ones off the top of my head, but NFS will be one of them) & sports games (more of these + WiiSports, which I think definitely counts). But in general the PS3 & 360 are vastly superior to the Wii in these genres.

No question that the Wii still doesn't appeal to "some" gamers. But it does appeal to "most" gamers, as well as being the most appealing console to "non-gamers".

And at the same time, I would suggest that the 360 appeals more to hardcore gamers (including people that want to pick up a shooter, racer or sports game) than the PS3 does.

This leaves the PS3 in the middle of a classic "pincer" movement - almost as if it was orchestrated by MS & Ninty.

...

Again - the PS3 has a decent (if not strong) software lineup for Xmas - just not one that really compares to what either MS or Ninty have.

I honestly can't believe there is even debate over this.

IMO the 360 lineup is the strongest(?) - but only just - over the Wii lineup. Then there is daylight between both consoles and the PS3.

I agree. It's as if people feel that it's okay to not include BioShock, MP3, or Halo 3 just because they've already released. Combine those three games with Mass Effect, SMG, and SSBB and the 360 and Wii are neck-and-neck IMO. All of those games have more selling power (with the possible exception of MP3) than anything coming to the PS3 the rest of the year. That's right, six games on those consoles that will outsell every PS3 game releasing this year. GT Prologue has a chance to sneak in there but one game (that isn't even a full-featured game) won't save the system in 2007.

I guess the Reality Distortion Field in the Sony forum is still alive and strong.

It's not as if I'm bashing the PS3 lineup, there are a few games I'm looking forward to this year. But to compare it to the Wii or 360 lineup is silly.

Anyway, on topic:

I believe they will release a 40gig for $399 or $449 bundled with Spiderman 3 or whatever else they can do. Dropping the price to $399 won't increase sales exponentially, but maybe they can get back in the running vs 360.
