Forums - Sony - Rumor: $399 40GB PS3 Release Date Oct. 30th

Depends on the stats of the wii, but a $399.99 ps3 can outsell the 360 easily.

It wouldn't outsell the Wii if it dropped to $399. It wouldn't.

URNote you were right when you said you might be wrong because you are i went to wikipedia only the first rachet and clank was listed to have sold 1 million copies US so it must have sold the other 2 million overseas and the other versions must have sold must or all copies overseas because because to be on that list of best selling ps2 franchises you had to sale at least 1 million copies so like at said since when did rachet and clank become a system seller because it is not and judging from the stats it has never been like I said
WHO are Rachet and Clank

If they did actually do this, they would lost billions, and I still don't think it would put them ahead for the holidays. The 360 is riding it's current hype wave with Halo 3, and I doubt microsoft is going to let us forget that it exists come christmas shopping season. If anything they will drop their price and make a halo 3 bundle. The wii is still the wii and will have 2 huge titles strategically placed right when shopping kicks off, with drastically increased supply, suddenly people will be able to get wii's at will rather than hunting for the last one in some hobomart in a haunted ghost town. The PS3 will only have what it should have had from launch, a less than outrageous price point. Ratchet is no Halo, and bioshock, or Mario and Smash Bros. The bundle and price drop will move systems, but not enough of them to outdo the other two platforms in the US. That's my prediction.

It's a desperate move that ultimately I think is going to hurt them financially, and have little effect on them being in 3rd place.

why do people say this is desperation I think that Sony really wouldn't have wanted too many people to buy PS3 too early. There wasn't the content to support it. Sure, die hard fans would pay a premium price to be an early adopter... That's why I was prepared to buy one at 600.

Could it not be possible that Sony has conciously decided that now is the time to go for the mass market? The content is getting to the point where there's pretty much a good game in all the main genres, plus more and more bluray hitting the shelves.

I really don't think that Sony would go into this without a pretty well worked out strategy... All i see with these rumours is the possible "main thrust" bit of that strategy coming to fruition? If it is desperation it's much more likely to be wii inspired than 360 imo.

So you're saying 600 dollar price point was sony's strategy to scare off customers because they didn't want a large userbase, because they thought they might not  be 100% satisfied, but now they are planning on losing even more money than before because they are ready for people to finally buy their console now? You would be the worst business man ever.

Sony's well thought out strategy was "people will buy it no matter what because we are sony". It failed. Now they are desperate because they didn't have a plan B.

And before someone denies this, here's the proof:

Speaking to CVG, Reeves said: "We have built up a certain brand equity over time since the launch of PlayStation in 1995 and PS2 in 2000 that the first five million are going to buy it, whatever it is, even it didn't have games."

Guess what, it didn't even sell 5 million as of today...

yeah because the PS3 has tons of games compared to the 360.  I am sorry but content not price is what truly matters.  It will just have a boost just like the $100 off the 60 gig and then go back to struggling.  The Wii and 360 have a stronger games lineup so they should be ahead even with the ps3 pricecuts.  Remember MS predicted SONY would drop the price so they arleady know how to probably deal with it but honestly with the games coming out I don't think they need to do anything.  Only time will tell.

When ha s Metal gear sold systems in 2001 GTA 3 sold way more playstation 2 than metal gear did In 2004 MGS3 got trounced by Halo 2 and GTA SA in sales  so where is the actual system selling from metal gear at
