Forums - Sony - Activision threatens to "stop supporting" Sony consoles.

I dunno, no breakdowns lol.

Im just thinking if they sold 10 million consoles to consumers in last fiscal year (going by VGC numbers rite) a must have price on the console of $299 should increase the sales around 30% for the current fiscal year. Or at least increase the sales by 20% to 12 million sold to consumers, and thus enable 13 mill to be shipped by Sony.

I agree that a $100 price cut can increase sales by 30%, but as I said if they cut the price right now they would need a 45% increase (from last year)... the more weeks pass without a price cut, the more this percentage goes up.

You crazy? IF PS3 drops to $299 soon they will easily ship 13million PS3s in this fiscal year.

I disagree, there's nothing easy about that. Read this thread:

Oh. Interesting.

I still predict 13 million PS3s sold and 14 million shipped with a $299 price this year. Especially as the Wii is losing steam.

You always underestimate Sony, NJ5.

If sony drops they price they will hit 13 million... all they need is a price drop during the hoildays... people forget what a price drop did for M$... as they was getting their ass kicked intil they dropped the price twice in others in one year and of course in the USA and japan... everyone is waiting for a ps3 price drop .... it will pull big numbers.

OT all i can do is laugh... i will bet my house that they would NEVER stop supporting Sony... this is not a big deal at all.

With GOW3, GT5, FF13 dropping in this time and a price cut if they dont hit 13 million then i would worry...

GOW3: it's expected in March, right? If so, that won't impact this FY's numbers much, since that's when it ends. What's more I don't think GOW3 is a big system seller.

GT5: This is the true system seller than Sony has left for the PS3. However, it's not expected for the holiday period when it would be really huge (since GT Portable is launching this year, and GT5 would overshadow it). So this is probably another one which if anything, will come late in the fiscal year.

FF13: Not an exclusive, so not much impact outside of Japan... and it's not coming for the holiday season either.

No dude not this again.

But war... war never changes

Will never happen.

What a ridiculous empty threat.

This would be a terrible blow to sony if it happened. Activision Blizzard are arguably the biggest 3rd party publisher in the world. People may think it wouldn't be damaging, but when the average consumer can't get their call of duty and guitar heroes every year they'll get a bit pissed.

I don't however think they will drop support, as has been said I think its more a scare tactic to make sure sony drops the price on the ps3.

Not going to happen, like someone said, maybe the games that won't sell millions will go to 360/wii but the big games will ALWAYS be on the PS3, you can count on that.

It will never happen.

The guy said they had better return on investment for the XBox 360 but that doesn't mean they don't profit from PS3 games. The guy just wishes he could make more money off the PS3 so he pushes for a price cut that would give him more potential buyers but as long as Activision is making money off the PS3, even if it's less than with the XBox, they're going to keep on making PS3 games.

Activision may also be trying to get a lower price on its licensing agreements with Sony.  If Sony thinks they may be serious I could see them lowering the cost a little.  The only problem with that is, if other companies try to do the same thing.  Overall it would hurt them just as much as a price drop.
