Forums - Nintendo - High Voltage - we're proving that the Wii isn't underpowered

What The Conduit is competing with is FPS's on Wii.. Call of Duty: World at War is the only one out there that can do anything to The Conduit's sales and that would be basically nothing.

They set out to make a solid FPS experience for Wii and I think they've proven that the Wii can do more than what other games in the genre have done. They have never said: Our game is better than KZ2 and Halo 3, just the definitive Wii FPS. That's exactly what it'll be. I really don't see where the hate towards them is coming from, there seems to be a lot of word-twisting going on..

This.  No fan in their right mind has said that The Conduit will be able to compete with the best of the best shooters out there.  The problem is that there are barely any good shooters on the Wii, so even a solid shooter will be a worthy addition to the library for anyone who is fan of FPS.

To be perfectly honest i think HVS are taking the route of all publicity is good publicity route with The Conduit because, to be honest, if they didn't create a bit of controversy or promote a reaction in people who would be paying any attention to them or this game?

So far, kind of disappointing reviews. 80 from Nintendo Power and 76 from the Official Nintendo Magazine UK. :

Let's face it, Metroid will be the only best FPS game on the Wii.

*Sigh* A let down year for the Wii for me. No games I'll be getting this year except New Super Mario Wii.

You need to take a closer look at the third party line up for the rest of the year.  There's got to be some games there that appeal to you.

Metroid Prime isn't even an FPS, how can it be the best?

So far the reveiws are a little disappointing, but they were also out before the game went gold... makes me wonder if they are really worth trusting. At least they are not bad reviews, but still was expecting it to get closer to 90 than 80. Too soon to say for sure, but 80 & 76 isn't a good start, even if they were likely from beta copies.

I wasn't really interested in the grinder, but after that trailer I think I might be as long as it's not all FPS (ie: at least a little RE 4 action adventure thrown in). If the Conduit is as good as I expect it to be, I will definitely be keeping an eye on it. If not, then it's not likely I will ever get hyped about the grinder.

that's easy - the "hate" is from people that are fed up with the hype, just like it was with KZ2, Halo 3, FF7 and so on (in a much smaller scale mind you)

The Conduit is going to suck for a 2009 FPS. 10 years ago this game would probably get raving reviews. The Conduit while the first game of their Q3 engine is a weaker Q3 game and pretty much a generic shooter. Anyone who assumes otherwise is going to be in for a dissapoinment. Anyone who will judge an entire company based on one game isn't much of a gamer. Out of the companies current big game line up I personally only find The Grinder of any interest.

The Conduit is competing against KZ2, Gear of War, Halo, CoD..... The Grinder has to only compete against L4d2. L4D2 isn't even on the Wii. The market only has one other person in it. The Grinder will do well.

PS. I find that big name companies like Capcom have little interest in pushing system specs unless they put there AAA team on it. It's also easy to blame someone else for lack of budget, effort, creativity, smarts.

HVS has a right to claim fame for it's effort with the Wii and to call out other companies. It doesn't matter that they make Dora. That doesn't determine talent that just shows company needs money. Needing money != Talent.

I don't get this part. I can understand that "The Conduit is competing against KZ2, Gear of War, Halo, CoD..... The Grinder has to only compete against L4d2." but if you want to say L4D2 is not even on Wii, you have to say that all the other games The Conduit is competing against are not Wii either.

MikeB predicts that the PS3 will sell about 140 million units by the end of 2016 and triple the amount of 360s in the long run.

Xseed and HVS are the only 3rd party that really put effort on Wii games, and their Wii graphics look super

i think HVS does much better promotion until now, and i think their games will sell more

don't mind my username, that was more than 10 years ago, I'm a different person now, amazing how people change ^_^

"Calling you out on your bullshit" from the famed creators of Dora The Explorer: Dora Saves the Snow Princess, High Voltage Software!

Seriously for a moment, big budget studios and publishers have publicly stated how the Wii cannot do lighting/sharders/bump mapping, and then an unknown developer that always did licensed work and small budget titles comes out of no where and starts trying to make a name for themselves and calls out the big shots on their false claims.

The Wii has no shaders like the standard graphic-chips that are used in pc/xbox360/ps3 but the wii graphic-processor has an alternative concept with so called "tev" (Texture EnVironment) that can do a lot of things that shader can do but use much less processor and graphics power and even some things shader won't be able to do.

I think all those bee stings you took in wicker man has your eyes swelled shut.

There has been plenty of great games this year and a crap load more on the way.

My apolgies I was unclear. I hope this clears the what I was trying to say.

TC, Halo, CoD are all FPS games. They are classic FPS designed games. Features may be different, but they fit the typical FPS game play. Then there is the FPS market. The FPS market is old and dates back it's origins to Qauke. Yes there were older like my first being Wolfenstien 3D Qauke and Doom seemed to be the big ones. The FPS market has chosen the consoles of choice. PS360. So TC is moving into an already crowded market. Part of the problem was that early Wii FPS games like Farcry sucked really badly that it reinforced to ignore the Wii. So TC since it's a straight FPS game has to pull a market from the other consoles. This is unlikely to happen due to the fact that there are soooo many chioces why would they buy another console. Yes there will be Wii FPS owners, but FPS core players aren't not Wii owners.

L4D & TG are a different FPS. FPS market plays L4D, but that doesn't mean L4D players play classic shooters. It's different enough to warrant instead the Monster Co-Op Shooter. Survival coop is very important to the this class of shooter. The only game in this market is L4D. Valve created a Blue Ocean in the Red Ocean FPS market. This is why L4D stands out, there are no other games that are similar. TG is going to be joining into this market. This means that the Monster coop survivalst players have very little choice. Yes they will get L4d, but with limited choices they will also likely add TG to the list(providing the game doesn't screw up the fun factor). Because of this it can help push this shooter class to buy a Wii if they were on the fence or had leanings. It won't grab 50% of the market, but 20% can still be a huge chunk.

As for the Wii FPS market. It already exists and showing it's rather weak, but TC still needs to prove itself against already established Wii FPS games. TG has no compitition on the Wii. I honestly don't see people choosing L4D over TG, but I do see people who like Monsters and Zombies will end up getting both.

Squilliam: On Vgcharts its a commonly accepted practice to twist the bounds of plausibility in order to support your argument or agenda so I think its pretty cool that this gives me the precedent to say whatever I damn well please.

Isn´t it the controls that set The Counduit apart from other Fps games like Halo and
Killzone. It can´t compete with their graphics (it looks really good for a Wii game) but
with it´s customizable controls it will do something that can´t be done on X360 and PS3.
