Forums - Gaming - Why do JRPG have such stupid save systems?

It just makes games that much harder, without them, it would take away some of the challenges of having to do things over again.

Nintendo still doomed?

ohhh.....so you think that some JRPGs don't have enough save points. That is certainly debatable, though I still like the system in Persona 3 and 4 because as I said it makes dungeon crawling more difficult and forces you to think about whether or not you should continue. It works slightly better in Persona 4 since you can automatically return to the highest floor you've been in any dungeon.

...

Do you think you are a hardcore gamer, Valkyria00?

Currently Playing: Skies of Arcadia Legends (GC), Dragon Quest IV (DS)

Last Game beaten: The Rub Rabbits(DS)

if u wanna see a badd save system. Than go play mass effect. the game offers hardly any outsaves at all so if u dont save ur game at a certain point and die, u gotta start all the way back at the last checkpoint which is like a half hour back. Mind you i still love Mass Effect, but it has the WORST save system ive ever seen and most JRPG are better than this.

It's not stupid, it makes the game hard. If all JRPG makes you save anywhere then the challenge will be lost. I don't want my game to be freaking easy.

I did mess up in Persona when I saved though so it was kind of my fault but thats my main complaint that their should be more save points. I'd prefer the challenge to be harder enemies instead of having to replay something you already did.....since you already did it.

@fanboy
I play games. Hardcore and casual are stupid terms.

I beat Ninja Gaiden Black without problem, Zelda puzzles TP still rape me, and I play FIFA 09 All-Play everyday with my brother and nieghbor.

I play games Im a gamer.

and i cant understand y ppl cant stop whining about stupid shit like this. Its simple LEARN TO SAVE MORE OFTEN. its better to be safe than srry jesus its not the game's fault u suk

The only stupid shit is the jrpgs save system. How could he save more often when the save thingy is hours away from each other. The only people to be sorry is the devs for always doing this, they never listen to feedback. ''u suk'' wow so mature.

in all the JRPG's I've played, my only complaint about save points is most of the time, they're not right before the Boss, but a couple of rooms before the boss so you're not at full strength when you fight it

you could make the excuse that it makes the game challenging, but the bosses in JRPG's are generally needlessly difficult to begin with

I think that save systems that allow you to save whenever you want would take away some of the difficulty and tension that comes from some JRPG battle systems. The fact that Persona 3 only lets you save at certain points means you have to be careful and figure out whether you have the resources to make it to the next checkpoint. I think I prefer it that way.

What if you have something important to do and you have to leave, but you want to save immediately, without being near the check point? A save is a save. JRPG's save at checkpoints mainly because of the linearity of the games. They need to monitor where you are based on the story.

then you leave the dungeon instantly and save.  You weren't able to make it far enough up the tower to save inside it, but you can always leave the tower and save whenever you want.
