Forums - Sales - Why do people think Wii Sports Resort will boost Wii sales?

First off. I am not saying Wii Sports Resort wont sell great.  The people that have bought a Wii for Wii Sports and love Wii Sports will tend to pickup Wii Sports Resort.  Yet they will not pick up a new Wii for Wii Sports Resort.

Why will someone that hasnt purchased a Wii for Wii Sports be driven to pickup a Wii to play Wii Sports Resort?  Is it because of WiiM+.  From my experience most people already believe the Wii does what WiiM+ brings.

Its libraries that sell systems not a single game.

It includes a Wii Motion Plus device and every other Nintendo periphery bundled with a game boosted the Wii sales.

Currently playing on PS3: God of War III

Currently playing on Xbox360: Final Fantasy XIII

Currently playing on NDS: Chrono Trigger

But with 50 million consoles already sold it is nearly impossible for any game to really boost sales.  As for the WiiMote+ being bundled with Wii Sports Resort that helps sell the game, how does it help to convince someone to purchase a Wii.

They will want to play 12 more sports. Cmon, its not difficult to guess is it?

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.

I get you and I agree, if people have already bought the Wii for Wii Sports they will just buy Wii Sports: Resort and not another Wii.

I predict a small bump in console sales (moslty due to the blue Wii and WSR bundle in Japan) but Wii Sports: Resort will still sell 30 million + copies.

I think the WM+ might raise the appeal of the Wii for the core gamer, and WSR will be the only game for a long time that fully uses its capabilities.

Thats if the game is bundle with the Wii. If not, then it will have a little effect on the Wii sales.

Not a chance.

WSR is a HUGE SW seller

but I don't see it moving units

All hail the KING, Andrespetmonkey

WSR will definately move units. Nintendo will have a large marketing push and sell it as a new and improved experience and use WSR to tantalize expanded market buyers.

I also wouldnt be suprised if Nintendo bundles it with a Console, WM+, and WiiSports this Christmas. They have no desire to drop the price, but may have a desire to increase the value of the $250 price point.
