And what did the SNES offer that the PS2 didn't?  PS2 has Resident Evil 4, Metal Gear Solid 2 and 3, Ico/SotC, Gran Turismo 4, GTA3, and tons of other games in a WIDE variety of genres.  Those experiences aren't matched by anything the SNES offered.  The PS2 had arguably the widest library of any console yet as developers started to come to grips with the 3D realm, and 3D controls (dual analogs FTW).  I can understand if you are a hardcore platformer/JRPG fan and love what the SNES offered, but I would definitely give the edge to the PS2.  Honestly, list the best SNES games, and 90% of them will be JRPGs and platformers.

I don't know if the PS3 will have a better library than the PS2.  The potential is definitely there though.  It won't have the numbers, but it could definitely have better quality.

I say the PS3 already has a better library in shooters and WRPG's for example. Shooter/Wrpg fans will find the PS3 having a better library than the PS2 one.

Btw are not more games releasing than their were during the PS2 gen?

PS2 had 300 games that scored an 8 or higher the PS3 has more than 100. It is not really that strange that the PS3 will end up close or pass the PS2 library quality stuff.

PS3 60GB has the best library, but the PS3 in general currently doesn't not have one as good as the PS2.

I very much doubt it will, but just a wee idea, I have looked at Metacritics and the top 20 rated games for PS2 and PS3 and you can compare and see where the PS3 is at the moment.

With two versions of Tony Hawk, 3 versions of Madden and 3 GTA games up there for 9 years of PS2, It pretty much makes the case that PS3 will easily catch up.

After this winter the score will probably be quit higher maybe reaching 93.

The PS3 is going to have to get the dominant position the PS2 had, and last as long. I don't see it happening. Speaking of PS3 exclusive library here.

^^^And keep in mind that some of these games that were worthy of a 90+ score then wouldn't fare as well, today. And as I said before, most of the best PS2 games have a PS3 version/sequel. I think the PS3 will end up with a better quality library, in the end. And, like many of us have already stated, those of us with backwards compatible consoles (like me!) have the PS2 library in higher quality presentation.
