Forums - Sony - Tretton: 15 first party PS3 exclusives in development

nightsurge said:
What he doesn't say is that these games may or may not be exclusive or just "console exclusives", whether they include PSN games, and when they will release. 15 games in development to be released periodically throughout the next 3-5 years really isn't anything above the ordinary from first party.

Just a thought, not trying to crush anyone's hopes or anything.

"With Agent on one shoulder and Final Fantasy XIV on the other, and then 15 exclusives from first party..." Tretton reveals, branding them all as "Gotta have it" games.

Not only does he specifically say "exlusives," but it's is widely known that first party games are exclusive games..

I don't know why it's assumed he didn't mean 2nd party too. Tretton didn't mention that, it's something the writer added. And I doubt Sony considers much different 1st and 2nd party titles...specially when it can give you a better PR if you give a bigger number. Thus, I assume he's including 2nd party titles

^From the OP.

So no, the writer didn't just add that bit. It came from Tretton's mouth.

I never saw Sony not touting R&C as anything other than a 1st party franchise. And by definition it would be 2nd party. Same with all other franchises. Thus, I really doubt he's not including them

Um, it's first party games.  Of course they are going to be exclusive.  Why would Sony's studios develop a game for the XBox360 or the Wii or even the PC (unless it's an MMO)?

All I meant was whether it was a "true" exclusive (Only PS3) or just "console exclusive" (as in on PC as well).  I think you misunderstood what I meant.

Obviously they won't be on other consoles.

@vitoaf, please also read this.  I don't know how this was that difficult to understand.  Why would people even think I meant "not a console exclusive?"....

You got me... I didn't even think FFXIV was exclusive anymore, so I don't know what kind of grip he's got on things.

Maybe he's just talking about "God of War IV, V, VI, VII... Grand Turismo 6, 7, 8, 9, 10... Uncharted 3, 4, 5, 6, 7..." Just presumptive sequals.

FF 14 was announced for 360? Oh you mean console exclusive? If you go by that logic 360 has what, 2 exclusives coming out in the next year?

Really? lol...I don't think so.

Fixed! ^_^

Oh lol yeah it makes all the difference :)

Few corrections.......

Uncharted is 1st Party Developed/Owned.
HEAVY RAIN is 3rd Party Developed/Owned but published by Sony.
inFAMOUS & Ratchet/Resistance/LittleBIGPlanet are "2nd Party" Developed but the IPs is owned by Sony.

Incorrect, sir--Uncharted is made by Naughty Dog, who are third-party and make PS3 exclusives because of longtime relationships with Sony.

Also, all these statements are ridiculous.  The PS3 CLEARLY doesn't have any decent exclusives

Incorrect. Naughty Dog is a Sony division, fully owned by Sony. Thus, Uncharted is as 1st party as GoW3

Naughty Dog is an American video game company founded by Andy Gavin and Jason Rubin in 1986, and based in Santa Monica, California. It was acquired by Sony in 2001.

(wiki)

hmm didn't know that naughty dog was also located in santa monica.

It's kinda cool how naughty dog are one of the only studios in sony with it's original name. Atleast studios that's been in sony for so long :p

Yes, but the IP wasn't theirs, it was Universal who contracted them to make the games. I don't remember if they got tired of making them or Universal ditched them, but the IP went to Sierra after that. Same with Spyro

they made 3 crash games. All ps1 games.. IP was owned by universal. When sony bought Naughty dog they didn't get the ip which had only been contracted to them in the first place.
