Microsoft: Project Natal's launch to be as big as 360's

Microsoft reveals that Project Natal's launch, expected for mid- to late-2010, will be as big as the console's own launch in 2005. 

In conversation with Kotaku, Microsoft's Shane Kim has revealed that the company will put all of its might behind the motion camera when it eventually launches, including a killer software line-up and of course appearances on mainstream TV (you can watch the project's appearance on Jimmy Fallon below). 

"Conceptually, the launch of Natal will be like the launch of Xbox 360. It's going to be that big," Kim told Kotaku during an E3 2009 interview. 

"We're not just going to ship it when the hardware and software are ready. We have to make sure that there are enough content experiences that are really good. That's similar to how you would think of the launch of a new console. It's got to have a great launch line-up. That's the same thing here." 

Shane Kim hopes that the project will help propel the console well into 2015, bringing Microsoft their first console to survive past five-years. 

"We're not focused on this generation's casual gamers or even PS2 people who haven't upgraded," Kim added. 

"This is about the 60 per cent of households were a video game console doesn't exist...the problem is that the controller is a barrier for some people and now with Project Natal we completely eliminate that." 

Project Natal recently hit controversy when it was rumoured to be unreliable for players with darker skin.

This is impressive news. M$ might actual seriously increase the sales of 360's considerably.

M$ if your listening to make this work you HAVE to sell a 360 and Natal bundle together priced between the arcade and premium prices. Perhaps slightly less or the same as the price of the wii currently. Do that and you will hit Wii sales.

Statements like this make me feel like there really is a 360+ and it's going to have Natal packed in with it. Otherwise such a claim makes no sense.

I respect M$ as a company and I really like 360. But I don't owe them anyhting. And if Sony produced a better games console next gen than M$ for the right price. Then I would have a PS4.
