I care a lot about my safety which is why I'm completely against gun bans.  I live in New Hampshire, the freest and safest state in the US.  It's no suprise that we have fewer cops and less restrictive self-defense laws than just about anywhere else in the US.  It is perfectly legal for a 14 year old to strap on a gun and walk in the state capital or a bar.  I was at a bar last night and several of my friends where openly wearing guns while drinking beer.  I love the safety I feel around such people.

as someone who lives in canada, that what you just said, sounds insane to me.

that doesnt sound that safe to me man.  drinking and guns?  prolly a bad idea.

It is. And I don't see what putinist Russia has to do with modern-day Germany.

Anyway - hopefully this fails in the German parliament like Louie said. At most, excessive interest in ultraviolent video games is but a symptom of something more serious - and not the problem itself.

Of course this means.. ALL horror flicks, war movies and probably schindlers list will be banned too?

I thought britain was bad but germany takes the cake for major STUPIDITY. If you dont like the game or dont want your kids to play it.. maybe its time you monitor stores/ your wards.

Poor parenting and governance as usual... sigh

I don't think the banning of videogames in Germany is such a bad thing. Most Germans would like games to be banned. It's not like anyone's protesting in Germany.

As long as videogames don't become banned in countries where people actually care, I don't mind much.

So you think the situation in other european countries would be any different IF a very, very small percentage of games would be banned?
Of course not.
The majority of people in all european countries still aren't gamers.
The majority of gamers are not interested in extremely violent games.
The majority of gamers who play extremely violent games will not doing anything more than sign a petition.
So as long as games with average violent actions aren't banned you will not see or hear mentionable protest. Nowhere.

I disagree. There are millions of gamers affected in Germany. The least they could do is make some noise. I'm sure there would be protests in the US or even here in the Netherlands when the government is banning violent games.

That's the reason I talked only about EU countries.
In the States and Japan videogames are a highly adopted part of their culture.
A way we Europeans (and yes, Germans more than most others) still have to go.
Which leads again to my point. Protest would be very small because the absolute majority (again, in EU)has no interest in the games I am talking about (NOT HALO, WoW etc.)
But maybe you got me wrong. I am against any censorship in games & protesting against it would be absolutely correct or maybe even necessary.
And after this whole hysterical election theater will be over I am sure that 99.99% of all games still will be legal to get.
More or less censorshiped.
