I excluded the Persona titles because I'm looking at the current gen.

If Persona 5 is announced, then we'll talk lol.

Still, it's a game that was released last year that eclipses everything. It could have been released in any next gen console just as it was now, it would have been exactly the same.

Well ok, how bout this then, what were the amazing and technically impressive JRPG's of the last gen?

Persona 4, Persona 3, Kingdom hearts II,  Final fantasy X, very good JRPG's!

And none of those have seen a current gen iteration in the series.  So the answer for why this gen haven't seen any of those was pretty easy.

Would you consider ICO an rpg?

mM

No I would not. Ico has no stats, no stat building, no leveling, no experience, nothing that would define it as an RPG.

I think your problem is that you excluded Persona. Not every JRPG back then was great, only a few were. There was always crap. If FF7 shined back in 1997, Persona 4 shined in 2008. One only needs to look at that game to see how the genre is constantly evolving. Yeah, maybe some devs are lazy, maybe they got a bit behind, maybe the next gen surprised them. But, as long as there are companies like Atlus, JRPGs will be fine

Are you serious? One game (or one company) can't carry a whole genre. And no jrpgs are not crap. I can name a sh*t load of great jrpgs.

No, I don't think anyone except megaman thinks it's an RPG. Of course, there are some people that think Zelda is an RPG, so go figure

Huh? Who said they were??. And read my post again. I said "as long as there are companies like Atlus", not "as long as there is Atlus"
