Forums - Sony - FF XIV online in 2010 > FF XIV standard in 2012

Ok seriously people complaining about FFXIV being online.....you're getting FFXIII the same exact year and will probably get versus the year after. People who loved FFXI such as myself haven't had a new FF Online in years. This game has been in development for 5 years under the codename rapture and has been very hush hush. I simple name change to Final Fantasy Online II would have probably made you guys quit bitchin' about it.

As for it coming on 360 I wouldn't doubt it. In all honesty when the game was known as Rapture the developers were actually talking about a 360 and PC version only and MAYBE a ps3 version. Here is a link for the naysayers that actually gives off a lot of information and tidbits that were given to us over the years. (the very newest information is on the top, but after that it goes from oldest to newest) 360 has a good chance of getting. Personally I will be playing it either on ps3 or PC, pry the latter, and if 360 does get it then YAY more people I can play with.

I personally feel that next year is the "Year of the MMO" There are a blood lot of them coming, however FFXIV will be getting 80 percent of my attention as with other fans of the series.

CURRENTLY PLAYING:  Warframe, Witcher 2

I think a lot of people would just play it on the PC though, it'll do really well in Japan for sure, but outside of that region is unknown.

I'm sure we'll see FFXV this gen.

4 ≈ One

They are "considering" the X360 option because FFXI failed miserably on X360 lol...

Btw, I am pretty sure the console version of the game is going to come out first because devs like to develop for the lowest-end machine first to ensure the game can play on the lower-end machine. So this is probably going to come out on the PS3 first in Japan just like FFXI first released on PS2 then PC.

An MMO should requier more work from devs than a regular RPG... look at WoW, you can play through it about 4 times without doing much of the same stuff (different zones with different stories because of the 2 continents). An RPG has to be more linear and offers little replay value.

My reasoning is just to say that if they can deliver an MMO, they could have delivered a standalone. If you're an FFXI player than this is great news, but for the rest of us, we either chose not to play time sucking MMOs or to play an other one. Add to this that you'll only be playing one at a time (for obvious reasons), there are heavy contenders on the way (star wars for one).

how could you be so sure?

Its pretty clear that even if they decide to port to 360, it will take 1+ year at least.

I doubt it just because of the sheer competition MMOs will have next year - Star Wars TOR, DC Universe, The Agency, APB, Champions Online, Star Trek Online (possibly), and of course more WoW will not help. A true FF14 will stand out as a class of its own.

My money is on the fact that not one of these MMO's you listed will top 500k players, except maybe Star Trek.

The Halo francise is the most overrated bland game to ever hit the console market. It provides a bad name to all FPS that even showed effort at creating an original entertaining plot.

I probably have more ps3 games than you :/

Coming back to the thread ...

I agree it seems unlikely that FFXV will be released anytime before 2012. IF Versus s being released late 2010 in JApan it will be released mid to late 2011 in the US and considering the time it took them to bring FF-XII after FF-X this seems like a safe bet.
