Forums - Nintendo - Capcom says 'never say never' with Street Fighter IV on Wii

You sound like PS3 owners when the console first came out. "Just wait, great games will come out." The only difference is PS3 eventually got great games. But for the Wii, we can expect some low budget Japanese games that will hopefully sell at least 100K copies worldwide.

Instead of boasting about the great things that may potentially come to the Wii lets just wait and see what happens.

And yes, Naruto CON will fade into obscurity. Cooking Mama sold over a million with probably a fraction of the budget. Now that's a hit!!!!!

The problem and main difference is that im not hoping, the games are announced, exist and have official release dates. Tatsunoko comes in 3 months, Dead Space and Darkside Chronicles in 2, Metroid another M in 2k10,Mario, and so forth(and they arent really low budget either).Im not "hoping" for games to magically appear.Well cooking mama sold a lot more than terminator salvation for HD and made lots of more profits with an even smaller fraction of its cost. The success of one game, which isnt particularly bad mind you, or one genre, never stopped developers to do other genres in any console. Just because wii is a metaconsole with different markets inside it, doesnt mean is worthless to devote to production of other types of games. As far as i know, Ubisoft and their red steel arent from japan, nor EA games with tiger woods, but i might be wrong. Otherwise, nintendo and every one should be doing their cooking mamas , which they really arent. And not because its not profitable, but because they are targetting other markets within the install base, because the market for cooking mamas games arent really that big, after all,900 k sales of cooking mama sales arent as good as 17 mil sales of Mario kart(another good game), or even 1.3 mil sales of COD WAW.

And cooking mama also retails for a very low price. It really doesnt makes that much of a profit in comparison, since it also sells for a fraction of a retail game.

As the wii market grows and grows, the share within it of "core gamers" increases ,and turns into a much more tempting area for developers to invest in high budget productions, making it more likely.Even if it were just 30% of whole wii market, that 30% alone is as big as the full PS3 install base.

And if you ask me, i will get DQX as im a fan of dragon quest games, and enjoy an AAA production myself. If RE5 ,SF4 come, fine by me.

You win. Wii is perfect to make a profit on low budget games. HD consoles are best for selling quality games. I'm glad we got that out of the way.

fine.just remember than i dont share your idea that budget equals quality.Nor that i think that Mario Galaxy is a low budget game .If you want to make it >HD consoles and PC usually targeted for high budget games, sure im all for that.

@ mjc2021,

Do you honestly think that a games budget is the primary factor in its quality? Truly?

Have you ever seen the movie Waterworld, or played the game Daikatana? Two widely used examples of large budget failures.

Give me ultra low-budget World of Goo anyday over your $15M copy-cat been-there-done-that generic FPSers that the PS3 is known for ;)

Hardware is only a means to enjoy great games!

And many don't know how much some games actually cost.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

Plus, just for the hell of it: Kelly Brook at the 2008 BAFTAs

You can't blame a game being shit on the budget (unless they're under budget for a big project). Low budget games are more common (obviously) and 99% of them are garbage.

There are plenty of low budget games I enjoy and I purchase some on XBLA. But my favorite games happen to be more expensive and ambitious projects.

well there are mid budgets and there are tiny budgets. The budge of lets say Overlords Dark legends its not the same as the average wiiware ,psn game.

If you want to boast about 3rd party success you should point out the games people really love on the Wii (based on sales). Raving Rabids, Game Party, Carnival Games, My Sims, High School the Musical, Deca Sports, Hannah Montana, Lego Star Wars (LEGO ANYTHING!), etc. Clearly those are the games the masses want because they sell like hot cakes on the Wii.

The sales of the games you mentioned are modest/poor compared to the numbers of those mega hits! The upcoming titles you mentioned... aren't exactly big releases. Silent Hill hasn't been a big seller in years. Overlord didn't set the charts on fire. The FF coming to the Wii isn't the one people care about. The Tales of franchise isn't that big and JRPG sales have seen a huge decline in sales compared to the past. The rest of the games you mentioned will fade into obscurity.

I'm not denying major developers will continue to support the Wii. The quality of the titles however... aren't quite at par with the HD consoles.

Edit: This helps my argument... and poops on yours.

That made me laugh.  JRPGs dont sell people don't care anymore. People want this game (FFXIII). What kind of game is it?  A JRPG!

You're putting words in my mouth. I did say JRPGs have had a decline in sales. I never said they "dont sell people don't care anymore."

None of the JRPGs on the PS3 and 360 have cracked a million and some of those were big releases. The Wii JRPGs have had abysmal sales with exception to Pokemon. FF and Pokemon are still going strong but the genre as a whole appears to be struggling outside of the DS.

lol yeah, DQS and ToS: DotNW had shitty sales, right?

OH MY GOD! 0.61 and 0.37!!!!!!!!! I didn't realize those were such monster hits. And lets completely neglect how poor the other JRPGs are doing.

Soriku said:
OH MY GOD! Let's totally ignore those two titles even though they did sell well and one hasn't even arrived in EU yet and say that Pokemon has ONLY sold well! And also let's totally ignore, in Japan, that ToS: DotNW outsold every single 360 RPG but didn't outsell WKC, but DQS crushed everything other console JRPG!

Their sales are average for games of their popularity. You act like they set the charts on fire. Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey sold considerably better than both with a much smaller user base and I don't consider them outstanding sellers either.

Edit: Also the Wii has a userbase 8 times larger than the 360 in Japan. I would assume the Wii would crush the 360 in software sales all the time.

You're forgetting that both are spinoffs. One is an on rails one to boot.

Is that your way of saying they're shitty games that managed to pull off decent sales?
