Forums - Nintendo - Where are all of Nintendo's games hiding?

Alright so as we all know this years E3 only further provoke the idea why and where are all of Nintendo's games. What am I talking about, Nintendo is hiding games. Nintendo is the largest games publisher in the world with more internal studios then any other publisher first or third party. So what is Nintendo waiting for and where are all of the games Nintendo has been making since 2007?

Games released since 2008 E3 not from Nintendo

Punch-out - Developed by third party Next Level Games

Excite Bots -Developed by third party Monster Games

This years biggest Nintendo games aren't actually made by Nintendo. Check them out

Metroid other M - Team Ninja

Mario and Lugi - Bowsers inside story - AlphaDream

GoldenSun DS - Camelot

Endless Ocean 2 - Arika

Of all of Nintendo's E3 showings only five games are coming directly from Nintendo

New Super MarioBros Wii - Nintendo EAD Tokyo

MarioGalaxy 2 - Nintendo EAD Tokyo

WiiFitPlus - Nintendo EAD Kyoto

Legend Of Zelda Spirit Tracks - Nintendo EAD Kyoto

-Wii Sports Resort - Nintendo EAD Kyoto

So which games are we waiting for and from who. How many games is Nintendo really hiding?

Nintendo EAD Kyoto - Legend of Zelda team

Nintendo EAD - Pikmin team, working likely on Pikmin 3

Nintendo Integrated Research and Development

Intelligent Systems - (unknown project)

Retro Studios - (Big project said to be in development by Reggie Fils Aim

Sora - Unknown project , could be next generations SmashBros

Nintendo planning and development - Unknown project

Brownie Brown - Nothing seen since Mother3 , what could they be up too

Monolith Soft - Since Disaster Day Of Crisis no new games have been shown

Nintendo Software Technology - Unknown project

Hal Laboratory - Unknown project

Game Freak - Unknown Pokemon game

NDCube - Unknown Wii and DS projects

Second Party developers

Genious Sonority - Unknown Pokemon project

Noise - Developer of Custom Robo (not heard from since Custom Robo DS)

Paon - Last project (Donkey Kong Barrel Blast) new project likely a Donkey Kong game

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So what is Nintendo hiding, how many games are in development right now that Nintendo is not showing us?

Their are at least 14 unknown Wii/Next gen projects and that just Nintendo's first and second parties. This does not include games from Brownie Brown (Handheld developer) or GameFreak as well as games from WiiWare developers like Ambrella. So what are these new projects and why is Nintendo holding back these games so long. Most of these studios have had no announcements since prior to E3 2007. Thats 2 years of development on unknown projects.

So why is Nintendo holding back and what are these 14 games?

First about the next gen smash game. That'll be impossible unless they like to milk it. or its on the ds.

THey don't want them to revel their secrets. They want NO ONE steal their idea

Tag:I'm not bias towards Nintendo. You just think that way (Admin note - it's "biased".  Not "bias")
(killeryoshis note - Who put that there ?)
Switch is 9th generation. Everyone else is playing on last gen systems! UPDATE: This is no longer true. 2nd UPDATE: I have no Switch 2. I am now behind

They are secretly working on Wii 2.

forgot Wii Sports: Resort and The Legend Of Zelda: Spirit Tracks

Monolith has a new RPG in the works and was shown off on the Nintendo channel called monoda.

Game Freak is most likely working on Pokemon Heart of Gold/Silver remakes and the new Mystery Dungeon game.

If Sora was making the next smash bros game which I doubt, HAL labs would be in there too.

The Zelda teams are working on Zelda Wii and Zelda Spirit Tracks

And the Pikmin team is working on Pikmin 3

So what does that leave?

Rumours as to what Nintendo is doing!

Rumour #1

Nintendo is stocking up first party software for the lull in Wii hardware sales expected within the next year or two. If so Nintendo should have about 20 games that could be released as early as next fall if needed. During Nintendo's GameCube lull half way through resulted in at least one new first party title released each month. If Nintendo does the same we could see a major flow of software as early as next year

Rumour #2

President of Nintendo of America , Reggie Fils Aim stated in a rescent interview that Nintendo hopes third parties will aquire a 70% market share on the Wii. This would mean third party titles would have to over take Nintendo's first party sales. This rumour states that Nintendo is intentionally holding back its first party catalogue with the intent of third parties going unchallenged by Nintendo's first party titles!

Rumour #3

The biggest rumour and conspiracy. Nintendo does not have to worry about the Wii. The Wii now essentially sells itself and their is no longer a need for big first party titles to drive the hardware sales. In this rumour Nintendo has turned its first party development from a current generation focus to a next generation focus. Nintendo shifting focus to next generation development.

Rumour #4

Nintendo isn't actually holding back. Nintendo is focusing on big projects like LOZ and Pikmin. That we over estimate Nintendo's capabilities and that their are far fewer titles Nintendo is hiding then we suspect.

Rumour #5 (Stated by Happy Squirel)

Nintendo is slowly expanding their development capacity by "if you have 2 development teams and you want to grow to 3 development teams it (typically) works out better (in the long run) to split your two teams into 3 and to slowly hire people until every team is fully staffed. Most companies are never given the opportunity to grow in this fashion because it slows down your development cycle and few companies can afford to have short term lower revenue even if it means having a higher quality more reliable developer."

From Nintendo

fixed (orange = third parties)

I wouldn't be surprised if Nintendo was using the increasing third party support, and their financial position, as an opportunity to grow their development capabilities in a very controlled fashion ...

Basically, if you have 2 development teams and you want to grow to 3 development teams it (typically) works out better (in the long run) to split your two teams into 3 and to slowly hire people until every team is fully staffed. Most companies are never given the opportunity to grow in this fashion because it slows down your development cycle and few companies can afford to have short term lower revenue even if it means having a higher quality more reliable developer.

So, when Nintendo releases a ton of great games, people complain that only 1st party games sell on the Wii. When they don't release a ton of great games, people complain that they aren't releasing any good games.

Nintendo's releasing Wii Fit Plus and NSMB Wii.

Wii Fit Plus is the sequel/expanded remake to one of the most popular games of all time. By the time Wii Fit Plus launches, Balance Board sales will be close to the lifetime sales of the Gamecube.

New Super Mario Bros. Wii is the first 2d console mario game since the early 90s, and it's cooperative multiplayer to boot. 2D Mario is the game that defined what modern video games were.

They're both easily going to sell 10 million copies. Any claim that nintendo isn't releasing big titles is just wrong.

Wii has more 20 million sellers than PS3 has 5 million sellers.
