Forums - Sony - Will The PS4 Have Blu-Ray Still?

I have been thinking, the PS2 and the PS1 both used the DVD format. The PS3 toke a different direction and decided to go with Blu-Ray. So will the PS4 have Blu-Ray too (optimized, making blu-ray CD's to hold even more data) or will they change to a different format again?

If they choose to stay with Blu-Ray with the PS4 will this be a big factor in its pricing? Will it be a positive or negative impact?

Tell me what YOU guys think.

the PS4 will use memory sticks as games.......each game will be sold as a memory stick cartridge thing

Err correct me if I'm wrong but didn't the PS1 use just a basic Disc format... not DVD.

Although I do think they will go with Blu-Ray.

..digital distribution is the future!

I dunno, seeing the direction of the PSP Go, they may try to make the stupid jump to digital download only, in which case I will never buy that machine.

Getting an XBOX One for me is like being in a bad relationship but staying together because we have kids. XBone we have 20000+ achievement points, 2+ years of XBL Gold and 20000+ MS points. I think its best we stay together if only for the MS points.

Nintendo Treehouse is what happens when a publisher is confident and proud of its games and doesn't need to show CGI lies for five minutes.

I think there is still plenty of potential for Bluray. Personally I think PS4 will probably learn from its mistake and be more based on the same architecture. That would help keep cost down. Aside from that, what more dramatic leaps need to be made?

Yes I am a fan of the Playstation 3, but I am an even bigger fan of intelligent and rational dialog. (If you are up for an intelligent exchange of ideas, you are more than welcome to add me as a friend)

PLAYSTATION®3 is the future......NOW.......B_E_L_I_E_V_E

(haven't been playing much since I am broke)

PS1 uses CD
PS2 uses DVD
PS3 uses Blu-ray
PS4 uses ....most certainly a new disc format.

If by the near end of the PS3's 10yr plan and a new disc format arises, its most certain that Sony will have that in their next console. You can always guarantee that Sony will try to bring in the best because thats what they do.

Digital distribution can only be side-by-side a physical format at best.  Until the world offers unlimited bandwith, extremely fast download, and continually larger HDD at a low cost, then digital distribution will never take over.

I have a 80gb PS3, say if I download MGS4 via PSN = used up 84% of my bandwith (I have a 60gb bandwith cap leaving me with 10gb of download left for the rest of the month) and that also means i cant download another big game til the next month, took up %63 of my PS3 HDD and means i cant fit at least 2 big games on my PS3, countless long hrs of inconsistant download time due to the fact that I might want to download videos on my computer etc.........but all of that was simply cut down significantly just by simply putting MGS4 on a single Blu-ray.  Thank you Sony. =)

ps1 was CD

I'm pretty sure the PS1 was CD, not DVD.
