I don't want to sound like a troll, but I'd say the extra $200 I had to pay was hugely inconvenient. Far more than switching a disc every 10 hours in an RPG (which people have been doing since PS1). That's all it's worth to those of us who don't use the BR player, anyway.

I don't think Blu-Ray was a smart move. However, I think all the other complicated tech in the PS3 was more of a problem.

Isn't the reason that the game takes up so much space because of all the uncompressed audio? I would bet that the vast majority of people can't tell the difference between compressed and uncompressed audio.

Any person that believes this is just naive. In fact the most naive person in the world. They did not make the PS3 so konami could release a 50gb game. Konami made a 50gb game cause Sony gave them a 50gb console. If PS3 did not have blu ray they would have just done [better] compression like all the other multiplatform games.

The reason PS3 has blu ray is because Sony took the decision that it was necessary to over come the HD DVD threat. Any other claim is nothing but deceit on their part. It is bad enough that they forced their customers to pay for their format war but for them to lie about it is just terrible.

It was three CD-Rom discs. International was 4 CD-Rom disc, but the fourth disk was not game content.  I got to agree with what another poster said that it will be helpful for the PS3 to rise above the 360. To tell the truth, most of these fucking games on the market are made so they can fit on the Xbox discs and be released on the PS3 with not much difference between the two system versions. Look at GTA4,  Street Fighter 4,  Devil May Cry, Resident evil 5, and FF13(in 2010), they are all games that are made with the not just the PS3, but  Xbox 360 in mind. Once developers start to make more games like MGS4, Kill Zone, games that are not made for the Xbox disc, people will see  it was a great choice to include Blu-ray as the main drive for the PS3.

I dont know if the PS3 is the main reason why HD-DVD is dead. I think it was the studios who fell back from supporting HD-DVD and joined the Blu Ray side that brought Toshiba to stop production of HD-DVD players, discs, etc, with anything involved with Toshiba's HD-DVD tech.
