Forums - Sony - Sony had 'no choice' but to include Blu-ray in PS3

lol wow talk about denial. Blue ray killed the ps3 and if their games really do take up that much space on the disc it sure doesnt show it.

wow..DENIAL that's cute..Blu-Ray is not just about the PS3, you are already saying the PS3 is dead and this generation is not even over yet. I love the fact that people are and continue to be so negative about the life cycle of the PS3.since 2006 people have been saying something or other has "killed the PS3"

WHAT'S funny the demand is still high. because people sure bring up the PS3 alot in the MEDIA or forum's..if the ps3 did not matter and is already "killed"and was already dead, why even bring up the PS3 at all..

I AM BOLO

100% lover "nothing else matter's" after that...

ps:

Proud psOne/2/3/p owner.  I survived Aplcalyps3 and all I got was this lousy Signature.

HOW COME NO ONE MENTIONS THE FACT THAT BECAUSE OF BLU-RAY, PS 3's games are

REGION FREE

You do know that REGION FREE is a god-send for international gamers right?? Who care if some game doesn't release in your region now? The system is region free! Not to mention how EASY it is on the PS3 to get DLC for OTHER region as well...

Maybe they don't talk about it because games being region free has absolutely nothing to do with Blu-Ray? A large portion of XBox 360 games are region free even though they are only released on DVD ... From my understanding, the reason why so many games can be region free in this generation is because High Definition TV resolutions and framerates are standards around the world and games don't need to be tweeked to play well in different regions. Being that most of the region locked games on the XBox 360 seem to be smaller games from smaller studios, I would suspect the reason they are region locked is because the game wasn't submitted (or failed) for testing against standard definition output in the other region and they were locked to prevent them from causing problems for players in other regions.

They had a choice. The fact that Hirai is claiming otherwise should be considered an insult to people's intelligence.

Actually, almost ALL Japanese games are NOT region free, however, a large portion of English games ARE region free, but that's pointless... since JP X360 isn't cheap at all, in fact it cost as much as a Ps3.

As for failing this generation: it all depends on your definition of failure. And the only definition of failure that matters for Sony is Sony's definition.

By that logic no company could ever fail since no matter how much common sense tells people that the company failed the company no matter how badly it failed could define failure in a way which meant it didn't fail.

Slow down there.  Too many defensive posts in a row.  Are you the Sony defence leader?

I think the truth is Sony hoped people would go crazy for BluRay. It attracted some people and turned off the masses with a ridiculous price.

I would respect Sony more if they would just admit they totally fucked up this gen.

Yep and it wasn't overpriced compaired to value. Theres a difference between value and what consumers see as value :p

And with a price like the ps3 had, it could have a technological singuality and it'd still not sell more.

What?  Think you are slightly divorced from the real world.  The makers of a product don't determine the value of a product nor do a few fan boys of that product.  The market determines the value.  The market spoke and said the value of PS3 was definitely not $600.

Quite right, my 80 gig launch has been in my closet for a year and a half because sony wants me to spend $150 to fix the already expensive piece.  My old lady is a nurse and I have my BS degree but I would rather invest my money into the console that will be replaced for free, if it is broken.  And for all the flamers, my 360 broke twice, and both times I just said it was the RROD and they sent me a refurbished free of charge, back in two weeks flat each time.  I couldn't be happier; $150 HA!  The invisible hand said NO Way...
