Forums - Gaming - Moore: Metacritic Less Relevant To Wii Game Sales

Yet another person realizes that the traditional game media just doesn't get the Wii. And this time, it's a rather important person in the industry. Yay!!!

Always liked Moore and his theory of long-term trends in computing hardware development. Of all the people in the world, I think he would understand how technology can advance only so much until people can't afford it and will only pay for what they think they need............................

Isn't that obvious. Some people just don't know how to find those reviews and buy games because of the cover.

The point is, that those reviews often aren't to be found until MUCH later after reviews on other systems with games releasing at the same time.

The other point is, that we Wii owners KNOW that reviewers aren't spending much time or care in reviewing their Wii titles, so we really put much less value in the opinions of somebody who is attached to some other system of choice, who wants to get us to buy what they like. Wii owners would rather try the game out at a friend's home, or look for actual users and friends online and get opinions, rather than listen to most of the tools that refer to themselves as critics. Wii games sell by word of mouth, not by the box art.

Just like the Wii sells by word of mouth, and people actually TRYING IT.

Achievement is its own reward, pride only obscures.

So pretty much Wii owners aren't sheep. I've placed less value in game reviewers once I got old enough to form my own opinions. Also, even as recent as this E3 you had CEO's of companies touting Metacritic scores, as if that meant something. This further cemented my belief that many game reviews are bought.

Bet between Slimbeast and Arius Dion about Wii sales 2009:

If the Wii sells less than 20 million in 2009 (as defined by VGC sales between week ending 3d Jan 2009 to week ending 4th Jan 2010) Slimebeast wins and get to control Arius Dion's sig for 1 month.

If the Wii sells more than 20 million in 2009 (as defined above) Arius Dion wins and gets to control Slimebeast's sig for 1 month.

What does Tim think of this?

Tease.

The reason for that is probably because the Wii userbase doesn't even know Metacritic exists

I agree with Moore.

If you wanted to compare Wii Fitness games you're forced to goto Amazon or some other site that has user reviews because the gaming media ignores those games totally. Only Wii Fit and EA Sport Active have Metacritic scores and Sport Active only barely.

Unless it's a 'core' Wii game, reviews are few and far between. They are also useless for many Wii owners as game sites put too much emphatize on things like graphics and too little on fun and value for money.
