I expected somthing around mid 8's, this was unexpected, that's not a good score compared to the other ones that it had got.

Was kind of hoping it would be higher...I'm not saying 7.5 (or 8.5) is bad but it really needed to get over 8.5 across all the IGN reviews (UK, AU & US) to convince me to purchase it. Perhaps the PC version will fare better?
Still looks like there's fun to be had with this game but I'll likely be waiting until the holiday season games start coming in before I make my next purchase.
It seems IGN AU gave it a higher score, more in line with what I was expecting, but is this IGN UK or US that gave it a 7.5, the score is posted as IGN US, but URL says UK, I'm confused.
Score: 4.9/5 (from Cheat Code Central)
Score: 4.5/5 (from GamePro)

We have to keep in mind that Infamous received 7/10 from Eurogamer and Edge:

Pity there’s no restart mission option on the pause menu. 8.5 Graphics Decent art design throughout but the standout is definitely the memory flashbacks. 8.5 Sound A rousing score paired with decent voice acting. 8.5 Gameplay Controls can be unwieldy, but once you have them down, both movement and combat are a blast. 8.0 Lasting Appeal It’s not all that long, but there are heaps of side missions, orbs to find and upgrades to purchase. 8.5 OVERALL (out of 10 / not an average) |
This is the review for Infamous from IGN AU:
9.0 Presentation-> Gorgeous gorgeous cutscenes – so Sucker Punch. Stylish visual design.
8.5 Graphics-> The huge sprawling city environments can be a little grey, but that's because the electricity and chaos are the stars. Nice animations. Jaggies unfortunately.
8.5 Sound-> Really good voice acting, impactful sound effects.
8.5 Gameplay-> Great movement controls and explosive combat. XP system is great. Timing on using L1 and R1 can be a little finicky, occasional niggles with platforming.
7.5 Lasting Appeal-> You'll get a decent length playthrough out of this one, and if you really love it you can go through again as the opposite alignment.
8.6 OVERALL

8.5 and 8.6 is the same thing for me.
I'm gonna guess this will settle around 82-84 metacritic. which is pretty damn good.
@infamous8: I really don't know why you think acting so immature is cute.

@ Zen: How come you rate GiantBomb when it was founded by Jeff from gamespot, the one you hate? I know it has other staff than just him, but still...
@ twesterm: lasting appeal and hours offered are two different things. If something gets repetitive or boring very quickly, then you're gonna stop playing fairly soon, whether it still offers a dozen further hours or not.
On-topic:
7.5 overall isn't a bad score. The individual scores like graphics and presentation took a hammering (and rightly so, the graphics look absolutely pants), but it's still not an "ouch".
Prototype has been getting lots of incredibly high reviews (albeit that some of them are from obscure outlets I'd never heard of before), so in the grand scheme of things this IGN review won't swing anything out of balance.
