Very impressive sales considering the very casual nature of the franchise. It should do as well as the rest of the franchise since pc games are generally not as front-loaded as console games.

Its amazing. Not many games sell that well first week. Especially not on the PC which is losing popularity due to consoles increasing in popularity.
How is 1.2 million in a single week not impressive?
Remember, the majority of Sims players aren't the people that go out and buy games the opening day. As they see the game in the stores or they hear about on the radio they'll buy it.
Sims is one of those games that has explosive first week sales and amazing legs.

I believe 1.4M is the official numbers from EA?
Regardless of how many sold, it doesn't stop people from pointing fingers at piracy. Goes to show how successful the **IA and the likes brain washed people.
I could understand blaming piracy if the sales were significantly lower then the opening week of the sims 2. But since its supposedly their fastest selling pc game ever I can't really see how piracy has affected this game at all.
Whilst piracy can be a problem, in this case it clearly hasn't.

I thought 1.4 too but since the OP said 1.2 I used that. :-p
Doesn't really matter since even 1.2 is impressive since most games don't even sell that much.
