Forums - General - Do you believe there is a HELL?

I don't believe in either heaven or hell. When you examine it closely all it is, is a hollow threat invented so that people become scared to question their religion and make them "behave". I mean how many theologies exist on the afterlife, thousands perhaps? I don't know. They can't all be correct and the likely hood of only one being correct is very unlikely as each holds as much water as the next.

I don't deny an afterlife, but I think evidence suggests that their isn't one, and even if their is then it is Extremely unlikely we already know about the right one. (I'm talking 0.000000000000000000001% chance here).

I mean if one person can offer me sound evidence for the existence of hell then I would like to see it lol

Instead of seeking to convince others, we can be open to changing our own minds, and seek out information that contradicts our own steadfast point of view. Maybe it’ll turn out that those who disagree with you actually have a solid grasp of the facts. There’s a slight possibility that, after all, you’re the one who’s wrong.

An infinite punishment for a finite transgression is stupid. Advocating hell as a just punishment is to advocate torture which we consider unusual and cruel punishment. Combined, it's extremely strange to see an Omnibenevolent being to make such a place and send people there for all eternity (without even getting into the problem of Evil and free will).

I like the concept of karma and rebirth more than the concept of a hell and paradise. I mean, why would you let someone impure into a place of pure good (somebody will probably give me some weird explanation)? What if there's a "line" or center? If one person was slight above that center (+1) and another slightly below (-1) it doesn't make sense, for 2 people with not big of a difference, to go into extremely different places. I don't know much of the concept of Purgatory, but at least that sounds better than instant paradise/damnation for eternity.

Anyway, at least Karma, you cannot become one with the Universal energy (I don't know much about the Indian religions... or religions in general, lol) until you're free from Karma. So even if you do only one thing bad, you cannot just repent it away. It stays with you for all eternity, and the best you can do is try to be the best person in order to be reborn as a better person with a better chance of not gaining karma in the next life. Baisicly I like the concept of RESPONSIBILITY in Indian religions, whereas you have the infamous "Chick Tracts" where you'll see awful criminals get off scott free with a last minute prayer, while a good and kind Jewish couple will go to hell.

Yes I believe Hell exists, not to the human eye but spiritually I know its there. And that is someplace I do not want to go.

I don't think God even exists so no I don't think hell exists.

If it does exist I'm there. More interesting people anyway.

Short Answer: No.

Ironic Answer: Hell no!

Long Answer: It seems ridiculous to believe the mind is a seperate entity than the body when we can use physical means to manipulate the mind. I see no evidence suggesting an afterlife. If I found myself in hell after I died I'd be pretty stoked. That would mean I have an eternal soul, I am eternal and unendable. You could say that in going to hell I'd reach Nirvana.

It should be so well constructed that you can tell at a glance what your goal is and, even if you don’t succeed, you’ll blame yourself rather than the game. Moreover, the people standing around watching the game have also got to be able to enjoy it." - Shiggy

I know its not exactly on topic, but if you cant really use the 'chances of' arguement to justify an afterlife (or lack thereof) because the chances of life creating iteself by chance (assuming you would believe this if you believe there is no hell) is far less then then 0.000000000000000000001%
