I guess that by the time Sony goes down a third company will have erupted. If Sony drops out, it will most likely be due to Microsoft (Nintendo is garnering a lot of fans but the two consoles have complemented eachother rather nicely). Long story short, Nintendo is, despite its complementarian efforts still the competitor, the girl you don't want to be seen with despite the fun you can or will have. Microsoft's console will be seen as the dreaded executioner.

And so far, the industry have sustained three competitors for a long time now.

Go where the game goes, don't call yourself a gamer if you're buying a system for the system.

Since what I like in my PS3 is the media hub aspect (all media, including video games), I'd go for something like that, maybe it won't be a video game system at all.

I can't see myself buying anything Microsoft. I hate them. I could debate about it longer, but it would look like an endless rant (while being true) and I think that statement sum it up pretty well.
I won't go nintendo, I don't like their games and I don't like what they want the video game industry to become.

So I'd probably build a media center "linux+elisa" style running, and quit playing video games.
I like video games because of the PS2, and the PS3... If they disappear, I probably stop playing video games and go back to my 'before video games' life... and probably won't miss it that much...

It's a slow fucking season, and it sold almost 2x of my expectations (90-110k)... look at the bloody sales for eerything else, geez. It's also a new freakin IP!

Where would I be? well, first and foremost, Nintendo... and whoever gets Sony's franchises...

In all seriousness, they'd probably become XBox owners since the library of games is the most similar.

Maybe ill be the only one answering the OP directly, I'd probably go with Nintendo since before i had a Playstation i owned a number of Nintendo consoles and some Wii games appeal to me.

But again, if Sony manages to break profit on the PlayStation brand why the hell would they drop out?

At some point they will need to generate more out of the PS3... PSP and PS2 are not gonna hold for years...

I'd hit the pub, then go out and buy a 360.
Or.....get an awesome PC up and running.
