Forums - Sales - Activision, Sega, Gamestop: Sony... drop your prices NOW!!!

Honestly I'll expect this from fans and forums..... but now even big fishes are moaning at Sony's prices.

"I think the consumer wants to see better value on the PlayStation 3." -Mike Griffith, Activision Publishing

"[We're] disappointed," Sega of America's VP of Marketing Sean Ratcliffe told us. "I just think it must be hard for Sony to balance three live platforms – that's not something Nintendo or Microsoft have to contend with. ... I think from a platform point of view, we would like to see Sony sell more PS3s. It's good for us as a publisher. We think it's a great [machine] and that for consumers, if they hit a sweet spot with price point that would bring more consumers to that platform. I think because of the success of PS2 people were automatically expecting PS3 to be the natural successor, and that actually really hasn't happened yet."

He continued, "We need as many consoles out there as possible so our games [can sell to a larger installed base] so I hope they do something on price, especially in this economy. It's really tough. I was talking to some of our counterparts in Europe and I think in Spain the unemployment rate is going be around 20% by the end of this year. And so it's not just the console itself; you have to invest in the TV and so on. I think Sony needs to recognize that and hopefully do something about it this year

Mmmhhh ....I wonder what EA, Capcom and Konami have to say?

looking at sony's prediction i think they're going to drop the price, but they need to get rid of their stock of old ps3's first

Sony has 2 major events left to drop the price this year. 1 is at the tokyo expo and the other is holiday season.

Posted as a news item already :p

Well.. As some people has said.. "september"..

Sony wouldn't expect 13 million units sold if they werent dropping the price at some point. Let's just hope they time it properly.

Check out my game about moles ^

Yeah, that's really funny. If they lower their price on the PS3s in stock right now, they will bleed money more and be in more serious trouble. Either way, I think it's likely for Sony to realize that they were in the wrong this generation. It has really bit them in the ass, and hopefully they will learn. If not, it's their fault and they may realize that it's not worth it anymore to produce an extremely expensive console for the third generation in a row and expect it to sell en mass like the first two generations did. It's a good product, but it certainly isn't worth the price it still is. If they lower the price, who knows what other parts/functions would be lost; surely they can shrink the die for the processors, but it would have very little impact on the lowered price.

Hmmm, it is easy for these companies to say this - seeing as how THEY won't be losing the money. Sony should ask them to subsidize the price drop if they want it so badly. Then we'll see how eager they are.

We all know that Sony will drop prices at some point, but dropping the point just before the height of the summer is not a very sensible thing to do

Anyway, Activision are the one making the RRP of Modern Warfare 2 £55, £5 more than most games, £10 more than some, including many of Sony's 1st party titles

with the new slim a price cut is not out of the question.

Also are you going to buy the console for ffXIV?

Activision ! the same compagny that try to sell a skate game for 120$ ? a QTE music game for 200 $ ?

And that have the arrogant to ask for a price drop ?

Be the first gentlemen.

I don't understand what Sega is getting at...Would their games sell more on a cheaper console...I don't think so.....
