Turn 10: Polyphony checked out Forza 3 at E3

When they weren't showing off Gran Turismo PSP on-stage at the Sony conference or giving interviews, folks from Polyphony Digital were apparently checking out the competition at E3.

That's according to Turn 10's Che Chou, who wrote in his E3 aftermath blog (thanks Kotaku) about how two developers from Polyphony stopped by to take notes on the excellent-looking Forza Motorsport 3.

"Perhaps the most surprising [visit] was when a couple developers from Gran Turismo makers Polyphony Digital came by to personally get hands-on with Forza 3, all the while taking careful notes, examining our UI system, shooting photos, and directly asking us some pretty interesting questions," Chou wrote.

"The reason I say I was personally surprised was because PD aren't generally known as a studio to acknowledge that there are racing games that exist beyond their own. Which could explain why the GT franchise has been so stagnant in the racing genre since GT3. So it seems competition is good for the consumer after all. I know for a fact that Turn 10 will never stop pushing racing games to the next level."

Apparently Posh Spice also turned up to check out Forza 3, although Chou doesn't say whether she also took notes.

not surprising... i'm sure devs of all genres check out their competition

"I don't have time to play video games anymore, but if I did, I would definitely choose the PlayStation 3 instead of the 360" - President Barack Obama

Wow.

Turn 10 really are throwing down the gauntlet.

starcraft - Playing Games = FUN, Talking about Games = SERIOUS

looks like GT5 won't be on the market for a while i guess.

That just goes to show that even PD think that Forza 3 is an excellent game...why else would they be asking questions and taking notes?

They know a damn good racer when they see it.

I agree Forza looks sweet, but Turn 10 have been really immature and disrespectful towards Gran Turismo. They come off extremely jaded and insecure imo.
Saying this and the other quote about how no other racing game will come close.

They should focus all of their efforts on accepting what they are, (while still "innovating" of course)

̶3̶R̶D̶   2ND! Place has never been so sweet.

I know Forza 3 is looking great, but Polyphony has no reason not to launch GT5 already. They could and they know it. I bet Forza 3's looks and style caught them off guard and after this its back to the drawing board for them. That is f'n sad. How long are they going to make people wait for GT5? If they keep going on this way PS3 owners will never get a GT6, because they are waiting for the competition to go first, when Turn 10 launches two games within the realm of the last full GT launch and the new one coming soon.

I like the look of both - but if I was Turn 10 I'd be careful with too much of the 'stagnant' stuff.

They're arguably right in some ways - but they're also the pretender building on what came before, and too many negative comments is going to garner ill-will vs goodwill after a while - and given that history indicates GT5 (whether better or worse than Forza) will probably outsell Forza 3 they're just setting themselves up for knocks.

Do love the new media for Forza 3 though, they've made a big jump from Forza 2 it looks like.

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

If they are so confident in their game then why do they feel the need to talk smack about PD and GT?

Hopefully they will see things that may improve GT5 ( like race rooms, invites, chat etc, 2004?) Nascar inclusion and damage has me really pumped fotr GT5 its even better than Prologue visually but then again its been 1.5 yrs. As for Forza 3 its miles better looking than its predecessor and very close to Prologue visually. The customisation options are going to be terrific, when I finally get a 360 again that is.
