Forums - Gaming - 1.6 TB disc created in Australia

http://www.macworld.com/article/140723/2009/05/nanotech_dvd.html?lsrc=rss_main

A 1.6 TB dvd shaped disc was created by Australian scientists. They claim that this technology could be used to create 10 TB discs, given a bit more research.

Claimed to be commercially availble in 5-10 years.

Who knows if it'll ever eventuate, but cool nevertheless

all these inventions for larger space discs keep happening but they only matter when their price is right and they are economically viable

Last year Pioneer created a 400gb blu ray which will be available by 2009 end and can run on the existing players. They also said 1TB blu ray disc will be out in 2012 and they will be able to run on existing players.

I hear yields can be poorer for dual layer, so how bad would it be for 9 layer? $10 a disc at mass production levels?!

Tease.

Solid_Snake4RD is right--it's all well and good to do this research, but the development and cost are the important bits.
