Forums - Sony - Will Sony's PS3 follow in the footsteps of Sega's Dreamcast?

I know the Dreamcast only pushed 10 million units and the PS3 has 22 million under it's belt, but given Sony's profit problems as well as the global economic crisis, will the PS3 be discontinued to save money? Even though I don't own one, I still think it's a terrific system and superior to the 360 in many ways and would hate to see it leave. What do you guys think? Will it die a fateful death like the Dreamcast or will it push through the hard times and deliver us a PS4 in the future?

Why would they discontinue the PS3? Most likely they'll do what Nintendo did last gen - focus on making a profit and come up with something new next gen

It's a shame, though. The PS3 could easily become like the Gamecube also. A great console but just didn't have the sales.

Or be the PS3, a great console with great games DESPITE it's sales

Yeah, that's what the gamecube was. Great Console, great games, despite its sales

Sorry, I was trying to turn this thread from 'hey lets troll the PS3' to a thread about the awesomeness of the Gamecube :P

Dw about it. I agree, RE4 was very much awesome. Melee too, between those two games I must've sunk hundreds of hours

That's a laugh, because the PSOne and PS2 weren't profitable (hardware-wise) to begin with, but were later in the years after the manufacturing costs came down. The original PS was $300 and the PS2 was $300; the PS3 is/was doubled that. I still consider it to be $600, only that they slashed the price because they removed parts and features to make the price cheaper, so you get a wasted product still. If everyone knew better, the 60GB was the best model to begin with. Why regress to a 40GB by taking out B/C? That right there is the reason why the system still isn't selling, because people want to play their old games on it too and don't want to play the PS2 anymore.
