So I guess, PSP and PS3 GT5 are pretty much a clone or same game. Hopefully they will release on same day.

Not at all. In fact, it's all but confirmed that GT5 will have less cars. The reason for this is the same reason why GT3 has fewer cars than GT2 or even GT1.

Gran Turismo: 178 Cars
Gran Turismo 2: Under 650 Cars
Gran Turismo 3: Over 150 Cars
Gran Turismo 4: 721 Cars
Gran Turismo Mobile: Over 800 Cars
Gran Turismo 5: Over 600 Cars

If you can take your car from GT5 PSP to GT5, wouldn't that suggest that all 800 cars at least be in GT5 proper? Hell, they could have 1000 cars given they have the space on Blu Ray if they wanted to spend the money..

You'd think so, but that's a hell of a lot of work. Personally, I wont believe it until I see it.

I assume you will have to unlock the car on the PS3 to use it in your career on PS3?
