Forums - General - I Just Got a Macbook.... First Impressions

Well since i will be taking on the venture of college next spring my parents decided to make it my graduation present to get me a laptop. It was a easy decision for me since i love mac's whenever i have used them over my friends or used my friends macbook pro. I went with the 2.0 GHZ (1299.99) model because it was 300 bucks cheaper then the 2.4 Ghz and whoever i talked to said that beside from more ram and bigger hdd (which can both be easily upgrade for cheap) they run exactly the same.

So far my first five days have been a pleasure. I love the simplicity of the design. It is a truly beautiful piece of hardware on the inside and the out. The trackpad works like a charm and the one button design is nice. The keyboard is a perfect size and feels very comfortable to use. Also the laptop feels very solid since it is made from one solid chuck of aluminum. The battery life does last up to 5 hours and wireless internet has never been so fast (i was able to download the full movie step brothers in close to 10 minutes)

All the programs that come prepackaged work like a charm. From the safari web browser to ichat, imovie, iphoto, and all others load up fast and work great. Although i think it is crappy that it doesn't come with a "word, powerpoint or excel" program built in. I think that would have been great but i just downloaded open office which is free and comes with all the programs needed. Obviously buying a laptop for college that doesnt have word on it isnt a really smart idea but like i said open office does the job fine.

Now since this is a game website i am sure pretty want to know how it plays games. Well i have yet to buy a game but i have downloaded the Age of Empires III trial and i have never seen the game play better. I wasnt expecting alot since it isnt in any sense a "Gaming Laptop" and i didnt really want a gaming laptop but knowing that it plays my all time favorite PC game like a charm is a nice little surprise. I also heard that it plays world of warcraft, the sims 3 and spore amazing too so that is nice. Microsoft is starting to release all there games on the mac now which is also nice. Of course i wont be playing games like crysis on here but playing some RTS and the Sims will be just fine.

My parents though that the speakers didnt sound that good but i believe that the clarity of the speakers makes up for the lack of any sense of base and since when do laptops have amazing speakers? I am probably going to get a nice pair of bose noise canceling speakers since i wouldnt want to wake or annoy my roomate with my music playing or game playing....

So my first week with the mac has been great and i would recommend buying this for any college student looking for a nice, reliable and simply beautiful laptop. Also apple gives any college student or person buying a laptop for college a free 229.99 ipod touch and up to 100 bucks off there laptop.

Anybody else on VgChartz have a iMac or Macbook? What do you think of them?

What games do you guys play on them?

Macbooks are divine. I suffered through 15 years of increasingly bloated, crappy Microsloth bloatware. The first time I used one of the new Macs, I was hooked -- clarity, precision, all the freeware and open source you need.

in the end Microsoft Windows is the best OS

I prefer my Vista machine for video editing and my Vista machine for gaming.

Edited once.

I prefer my Windows machine for video editing/media and my Windows machine for gaming. I like my mac for porn surfing because it doesn't get viruses.
