Forums - Nintendo - if Nintendo had shown Natal instead...

It would be meaningless to seek out mainstream media on the subject; the problem by and large does not lie with them, the problem lies with the gaming media and its willingness to sell itself to the highest bidder. That was the root of this discussion to begin with.

Also, trying to dismiss manufactured anti-Nintendo sentiment out of hand simply because "it's business" is pretty short-sighted. It's also "business" to buy positive press coverage on products, to hire in-audience cheerleaders to act hyped about products during big presentations, to hire viral marketers to garner support for products by exploiting word-of-mouth tendencies, and so forth. Does that excuse such underhandedness, because it's "business"? No moreso than causing grave harm to innocents can be justified with the line "I'm just doing my job", if you ask me.

Then why are we debating about Nintendo hate in the media? The topic was Nintendo hate in gamers, not the media. Hint: The media includes Kotaku.

And again, your taking something I said out of context. "Its business" refers only to Nintendos competitors. If you think that they are going to pat Nintendo on the back and say "well, better luck with your Nintendo Revolution" then you need to understand business practices. And I'm also interested in where your source is that is saying Microsoft is buying the press and using "underhanded techniques" to gain popularity. Or is it that Natal is simply something more revolutionary then using IR controls in a game console, and thus the media is more likely to get really hyped over it?

Come on now. I would personally much rather have underhanded advertising then underhanded mass murdering. That was a wierd example, and still ineffectual until I get proof that Microsoft is the one forcing the media to advertise Natal. As far as I can tell, they are just amazed by it more then anything else. Hell, if I had been in the game businesss as long as some of them had, I would be hoping for Natal to work too, since its the closest thing we've got yet to 4D. Now heres another question to answer with my previous ones...does this still count as "on topic"?

GOTY Contestants this year: Dead Space 2, Dark Souls, Tales of Graces f. Everything else can suck it.

Here's a hint: much of the gamer hate towards Nintendo is driven by hate generated through the gaming media towards Nintendo.

And do you really need me to point you to the massive amounts of evidence of Microsoft buying media support and resorting to anything but fair play? You've actually never heard about this? Microsoft is infamous for it. The term "astroturfing" was coined to describe their techniques back in the 1990s when they used it to ridiculous degrees to garner support for their products in the PC market. Their track record is so flooded with examples of buying support that saying that they did NOT buy support for Natal rings incredibly hollow. And that's not even getting into their underhanded marketing campaigns over the years (again, well documented; there's entire books on the subject of Microsoft's underhanded tactics) to keep their competitors in check and even buy out the promising ones.

If Nintendo had shown Natal on new Wii 2 with improved graphics it would be huge.

I noticed another interesting thing about gaming media and gamer reactions: Last years they bashed Nintendo for showing new peripherals. This year, coincidentally the year that Sony and MS show their motion controls, Nintendo is criticized for not showing any 'important' new peripherals.

Wow, media hate? You Wii boys need to stop crying about how you are the victims of hate. The media praises your consoles innovations just as much as other consoles. Just because you don't get the amount of positive coverage you think you deserve, does not mean the media is biased. The Wii already maxed out it's media potential when it brought motion control to the table. Why would the Media want to rehash the same old thing with slight improvements, when they could get more vewership off of something entirely different and new? Wii doesn't have games for hardcore gamers, they have Mario, Zelda, and Wii fit. Not Killzone2, Halo3, GT5, or Forza 3. They aren't even a HiDef console.

With that having been said, what if MS had released Wiimote+ and Nintendo had shown NATAL this E3? Would the hyp be the same? contend it would. People would have looked at the MS version of Wiimote+ and said, oh how cute, they are trying to copy the Wii. But if they saw Nintendo's version of NATAL, they would have sung it's praises because it is more innovative than anything they had come up with to date. I too would have been very impressed with it, and very unimpressed with MS Wiimote+ (after all, if I wanted to use a Wii mote, I would go out and buy a Wii)

Past Avatar picture!!!

Don't forget your helmet there, Master Chief!

It's sad, but i have to agree with you, the gaming media has a kind of bias with Ninty

And @ironman, i can't agree with all the buzz of "Wiimote has been praised" mostly comments were that it wasn't 1-1, all it could do was waggle ("Oh no! waggle! SMG is casual!") about WM+ was said for a few it "could" do great, but it wasn't seen as the megaton it is. Even about Wii balance board, the comments about the wii should be in the bathroom.
