It seems a lot of gamers (at least the ones who post on gaming forums) really don´t want any of the big 3 to release a new home console before the end of 2012 at the earliest, and I agree with them on that.

Anyway, do you mind if a new system comes out in 2011?...or better, would you even want it to?

I don't think I would be pissed, but I would certainly much rather see new consoles after 2011. The longer the consoles we have now stay on the market, the more games they get.

I'd like our consoles to be utilized as much as possible before releasing a new console.

yes i would be pissed, i'm buying a bunch of wiimotes+nunchuks and WM+s this weekend so that's a lot of money. i'd be pissed if i didn't get to use them enough if the next consoles are released too early.

Playstation 4 in 2013 or 2014

Xbox 720 in 2012 or 2013

Wii 2 in 2012

But but the world ends in 2012. Launching a console right before would be unwise and gamers would waste a lot of money they should spend on purchasing ancient Mayan time-travelling technology.

I wouldn't be pissed off - I also wouldn't be buying either. I expect a nice long generation this time, and now even MS are going on about 10 years I guess it's looking more likely.

Of course new consoles will be released before the end of 360/PS3/Wii lifecycles, but I tend to pick up a new console towards the very end of existing consoles life - i.e. I'm in no rush to pay more for the first years generally weaker titles.

Why be pissed off? In 2011, the PS3 and the Wii will be 5 years old and the 360 will be 6 years old. Seems like a pretty standard console lifecycle to me.

Well, yeah, famousringo, but given this gen started far more expensive than previous ones, and only now the Wii is starting to be taken more seriously, the usual 5/6 year old lifecycle should turn into a 7/8 one....at least the way I see it.
