1. Cleveland can pay him the most.

2. Few teams are positioned to have enough money to imrpove in 2010 like Cleveland will. The cavs would have enough money to pay Lebron and get a couple of other stars like Amare and Carmelo unless they overreact and overpay someone this offseason.  Clevland has very few bad contracts... and they're all expiring soon.  If he signs early in 2010 for the max... they'll probably at least get Amare or Bosh... and Carmelo isn't out of the question.

3. Where would he even go? New York is often talked about but they're a mess and will be in 2010.

4.  The cavs just got some Chinese investors so it's a good way to increase your international appeal, and cleveland will be willing to push the cap as high as possible and take on some luxuary tax.

Lebron should come to New York. I haven't been to a Knicks game in eight years. If he's there, I'll go broke at MSG. Add Chris Bosch and Stephen Curry and we're set for playoff contention.

I think he should come to Toronto ;)

But seriously though, he's the only reason the Cavs are good. If he left they'd immediately go from Championship contenders to a non-playoff team. I say he should leave and go to a team that's a playoff calibre team without him, and with him they would be major contenders.

Maybe he could go to Boston if they dumped 1 of the big 3 (Allen, Garnett or Pierce). I don't know if they could afford a big 4 or not.

Ray Allen comes off their cap the year Lebron becomes a free agent.

It still won't be enough money to sign him and have anything decent for support though.

Likely they'd need to find a way to dump Garnett as well who's likely done anyway... but Paul Pierce is on his way out too...

Boston's big 3 are just rapidly aging.  It'd be a bad deal.

The only team that really makes sense for Lebron to go to is the one team he won't go to.

The Chicago Bulls.

They have a great young core and will have salary to spare.  However Lebron would never go there... because if he did he could never surpass Jordan.

It's really why teams like the Knicks don't work.  He'll never surpass jordan that way.  Even if he won 5-6 in a row.  The only way to surpass jordan would be to match his stats (Basically already is),  Almost match his rings (if not match) and to do it for a non historic team.  Since any "ties" will go towards Jordan.
