Forums - Microsoft - Natal Price Answer: Less then $20 to make

Superchunk is right. However, 3DV was hoping to launch their solution below $99.00 which would include a price markup for profit. I'd venture that MS would launch the unit at selling price just above cost.

I'm confident it will sell below $100 ($99.99 price tags included ;) and would even place odds on it selling for what the vision cam retails for now.

3DV were hoping to price 'thier' product, the depth camera, at $99. Again, only one componant of the whole. At best this completely Natal product of a depth camera, regular camera, mic, processing unit of some kind, various other hardware and software including state of the art voice recognition software will be $99 or more at launch in late 2010 at best.

The price had been the main thing that interested me, and I assumed the cost was one of the reasons that they don't already have a release date for it, it needs to be cheaper. Interesting to see what they are doing, but as everyone says, it is still likely going to retail for $75-100

ur title is misleading, they are refering to a certain tech in the cam thats less than 20$ combined i feel the natal will launch at $99 or higher.

to put in perspective live vision cam retails for about £34.99 $60 ish

natal will be much much higher

Funny because you're the master of misleading titles.

Microsoft love to overcharge for their acsessories, Natal won't be one of them though. They want this in peoples homes.

Your reading that wrong. Only the 'depth camera' is being to referred to as $20 to make and that is only one portion of the Natal system. Natal has two cameras, a mic, processing unit, and software.

In addition to that, this $20 price for one part of the whole is also a goal price point by an estimated launch some time in 2010.

Basically your title is very misleading.

This haha, owned :P

Why are people laughing at this? We should be all sad that it is NOT going to cost 20$ to make overall. :(

Why is Bionic Commando Rearmed 2 getting so much hate? We finally get a real game and they're not even satisfied... I'm starting to hate the gaming community so f****** much...

For one I'm actually not interested in this at all...

But I'm thinking of the children here!

Their product was a depth camerea, RGB camera, and a processing unit.  This was supposed to be manufactered by the end of 2008. As the price of components decrease over time, and a mic being a very cheap piece of hardware, below $99.00 is more then feasable.  Especially when you consider the product is most likely over a year away.

The link below provides the specs of what 3DV was offering:

@noslodecoy

Nice, thanks for the link. Still betting on a $99 price tag though in 2010 based off this article.
