Forums - Microsoft - Halo 3 - 1,000,000 sold in 1 day

Here is Halo 3's bar:

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/6456214/

$125 million --> 2.3 million in sales between US & Canada in the first 24 hours.

If Halo 3 is less than 2.3 million in one day ...

"Disappointment Total."

And snuggle the girls be they short or tall,
Then follow young Mat whenever he calls,
To dance with Jak o' the Shadows."

It'd be a shame to have Halo and no live

Rofl first I thought your comment was biased against Halo owners but then I found out that you mean  'no Xbox live'.

Well, day 1 Halo 3 sales SHOULD be lower than day 1 Halo 2 sales. Halo 2 had a larger install base and a lower price threshold. Even MS themselves never said they were aiming to beat Halo 2's day 1 unit sales, just revenue. IIRC, Halo 2 did about 2.5M first day, for $125M in revenue. MS actually wanted to beat Spiderman 3's $150M first day opening, to have the biggest 1 day total in entertainment history.

So if this 1M online transfers to 2M purchases, they would need the average price to be $75 to beat $150M, which could be possible with a minimum price of $60, and the highest SKU well above $100.

At worst, they should beat that Halo 2 number.

I expect there'll be an MS press release tomorrow or Thursday.

"[Our former customers] are unable to find software which they WANT to play."
"The way to solve this problem lies in how to communicate what kind of games [they CAN play]."

Satoru Iwata, Nintendo President. Only slightly paraphrased.

Remember only 60% of 360 users have xbox live acounts (gold + silver) so the number of copies sold is likely to be double that. Probably around 2 to 2.5 million, maybe even more.

Halo comes with free 48 hour pass for Live gold.. I'm sure that not everyone will go online, but I would expect something closer to 90%

10 minutes passed and.. 1,033,000 unique users - 30,000 people in the last 10 minutes have for the first time played Halo 3 multiplayer!!

You also have to realize that there is a good chunk of the population that does not have broadband.  Oh, and there are people like me that bought the game but haven't opened it yet.  (damn season premieres...my wife is hoggin' the HDTV)

In matchmaking, it say only 15521 gamers are online.

Either the tracking is messed up because of the traffic, or most people are hitting SP

"Why do they call it the xbox 360? Because when you see it, you'll turn 360 degrees and walk away"

I said it would outsell GEOW total sales in one day (including Europe and others).

It was just a joke but a joke that looks to become true X_X.

It's probably messed up. Last night at 3:30am Pacific time, there were over 85,000 people online in matchmaking. :D

BTW, how cool is the world map that lights up depending on local traffic?
