I wonder when this arrangement was made between SE and Sony. Contrary to popular belief Sony and SE are certainly not mortal enemies. :P
I think Sony got it for at least 6 months but since this is an MMORPG probably a year. I seriously think this game is going to do well in Japan especially since online on PS3 is far more advanced than PS2.
The timeframe will help it quite a bit because what the timeframe means is that the game will be out in Japan exclusively on PS3 about 6 months before it hits the Western countries. Building up an audience of 3 to 5 million players for the game in Japan before it is released it the West probably bringing the PS3's install base in Japan up to 7.5 to 8 million before FFXIV is released in the West, then when it comes to the West it will sell about 2 or 3 million copies on PS3 and about 1.5 million at most on 360.
Good strategy Square has going. Make their Japanese fans happy by releasing these games first and on a Japanese console in Japan while benefitting from combined PS3 and 360 sales in the West.
Hmmmm...now that it's likely to come to 360, I can stop bashing and berating the game under the disguise that I hate MMOs and start praising it. Ok 360 guys, we can stop the charade! We're getting it too!

Still not registering any excitement. After trying out FFXI, if it's anything like it, I won't buy this either. Well maybe if it comes with a pre-order bonus, I love those, and then return the game.

Are you serious?
...Us PS3 fans wouldn't stop at timed exclusive, you just have to shift most bashing to the developer for causing it.

It won't be free. It would be a strange occurence if it were. It is a possibility, but it's so remote it's almost not worth wondering or speculating about. Square will be paying the server fees. They will charge the customer for them.

Sorry but I still hate MMOs and would only play one if it had Pokemon in it along with magical sorcerors who summoned different characters from SEGA and the US Congress and White House lore to help save New Japan which was created by the Chinese to try and counter the Hello Kitty monsters from some war they make up called the Keroppi Love Love Peace Time War. It would also have to have free online play and come with a pormotional artbook and OST and coupon for a free pizza from Costco.
Personally I am more excited about the Hello Kitty MMORPG.
