The 20gb had no wifi, it was $499.99, had a lower end Hard drive, and no card slots.

The reason why 20gig flopped was because of its price and the 60gb was just 100 buks off.

The 40gb has usb ports, memory card slots just 2. And wifi(hopefully) with 40gb disc space. For most likely $449.99.

According to that FCC label, it will have WiFi. And from rumors I have heard, expect it to come out mid-late October at the $399 price point with the 80gb bundle at $499. It's not unrealistic to expect this to happen as there is a 45 day wait on the FCC to have a full release on the unit. It was completed on September 4th for the testing, so sometime within 45 days is what I would expect for this unit to come out.

Just like the 80gb Soriku when everyone kept denying it was coming to the US and would just be for Korea? This one has similar legs and looks like it's a matter of "when" not "if".

Do you guys think Sony may launch the 40 GB at $499 and keep the 80 GB at $599 after dumping the 60 GB? Maybe bundling it with a game or a movie (Spiderman 3) too...

I don't think it's that likely, but it's possible considering that the price drop on the 60 GB model was apparently a stock clearance... And looking at how Sony has repeatedly shot itself in the foot lately with their PS3 business, I'm not betting they won't do it!

They would definitely lose a lot of money if they released it for less than $499... At their last quarter's press conference, they said that they were expecting to reach profitability on hardware "later rather than sooner", so I can't see them being very aggressive on price cuts for now. $399 would be very surprising to me, but $449 seems possible too.

80gig is 599 with motorstorm, its just a cut $40 with out it.  I could see some big ass 200gig + game taking the 599 spot.

No no no no no no.  It didn't fail becuase it had less.  We are going to have to understand that things fail in the market because how they are marketed.  The 20gb failed becuase it was marketed as the lesser unit.  And when you do that you basically are saying this is for the people that aren't looking to get everything.  tHis is the exact same thing that happened with the core 360.  If you market it as the lesser console you'll get lesser sales.  Thus the 20gb failed like that. 

This is the main flaw of more than one SKU becuase you are basically telling consumers why the price is different.  You either have to say one is the main one and the others are the secondary ones.

If 40gb model does happen Sony will either kill the 80gb by doing it or they'll kill that 40gb.  The market is no place for 2 items that are exactly the same.  

So you think they'll launch 2 models soon? That's even more retarded than launching a 40 GB @ $499 with some bundled game or movie IMO.
