There is a game out for the PS2 (lots of !!!) that uses the EyeToy (again lots of !!!), that does full body tracking in real time. WTF(many more !!!)

You do realise this isn't motion control. This is a camera looking at you. It is video footage of you that pits you in the center of the screen. IT has certain blocks and such in predetermined paths. Ive used this and if you move out of the center area to much you aim for certain blocks to smash for instance and it doesnt connect. It is not 3d motion capture. It's clever because it's actually done by preset motion capture in a studio and the put into the game. It has over 2500 preset motion areas on screen. When you move near these with your captured video character the block will smash.
Dont confuse this with motion control though. For instance Eye toy would not be able to do something like Ricochet or the paint program on Natal purely because it doesnt do 3d motion capture for an entire body.

The OP showed the Eye Toy camera, which is exactly what was shown this E3. Do you think those PS3 cups are moving with just hands? The PS3 eye toy has to have recievers in or on the players hands. It has to have focal points. It cant pick up bare hand movement. So yes it is exactly the same as the E3 2009 Dildo wands. just most probably a different design for the cup demo. Seeing this is 2005 in the OP I'm amazed how little it's come on in 4 years. They still had big issues with the tracking in E309 demo. like object connection etc. E309 footage and those cups from 2005 are done exactly the same way. So my post was saying to the op who said this is impressive tech, actually after Natal it's anything but impressive. Thats just the way technology is. |

Wow those videos were impressive, even though I dont care much for motion control and will probably never use them, they were pretty impressive videos.
Also, please stop talking about that NATAL crap, this thread is about the PS EYE. If we cared about NATAL there would be videos of it in the OP, screwing up at E3.
Guys, NATAL makes the PS3 eyetoy look like, well, a toy. That is why NATAL is relevant here. Am I impressed with what they can do with a 2Dcamera? Yes. But from the video I saw, it was glitchy, hard to line up, and not very accurate. You would think after being on the market this long that they could perfect it. Just admit it, the eyetoy was great...last year...hell, even last week. But NATAL took all that joy away from it. If you guys really want to go on singing the praises of some archaic technology to make yourselves feel better because of Sony's recent failure at motion control, be my guest. I am simply putting fact out on the table. I would have been very impressed with Sony's showing at E3 if it weren't for NATAL. But after that, it's just... meh.

Are you confusig the NATAL video with the PS Eye video, cause that is what I saw when NATAL was being demoed.
And this thread is about things the PS Eye can do, and things the Eye Toy has done, that is why Natal is irrelevant here.
Just because people seem confused.
Eye Toy
-2D motion tracking
-30fps
-Facial , and body tracking
PS EYE
-3d motion tracking
-120fps
-Facial, and body tracking
The PS EYE is capable of everything shown in the NATAL demonstaration. The only thing stoping it is software. The controllers are only incorperated for further accuracy, and immersion. With the contorllers, we can have the feel of hitting a button, or the response of contacting an object.
Let me stress that I am not out to cut down NATAL. It is very good technology, and there is nothing stoping Microsoft from bringing out controllers to work in tandum with that tech too. Just please don't be blind to the fact that the EYE, and NATAL are basically the same tech, and the only thing that either needs is software.
