Around the Network

just voted, and after much deliberation, i went for the Lib Dems

and also as it was the first time ive voted!

nice . Voting in approx. 6 hours

Just voted, I voted liberal democrats, but I was very close to voting libertas.

We also had our local election, I'm very disappointed in the choice we had for our town. I voted for the only viable candidate, even then it was the lesser of many evils.

I had the choice between a misguided green party candidate, the labour candidate who sued my mate for defamation, the racist BNP candidate and the Liberal democrats who I am convinced were not aware an election was even on.

The choice was pretty clear lol.

Whats wrong with UKIP? They seem to be getting support and they have resonable policies. Why the hate? Scared they will win seats?

Everything is wrong with UKIP. They prey upon foolish Daily mail/express readers who get whipped up in a confused frenzy about immigration, Crime and Europe. They propose extremist solutions to insignificant problems and don't propose solutions to the more important problems.

If they were in charge the country would fall apart overnight due to their narrow minded, xenophobic, isolationist ideals.

-edit-

The only positive I can really think of is that they are not as racist as some parties.

Here are a few policies from their website.

We will re-embrace today’s fast-growing Commonwealth and we will encourage UK manufacturing so that we make things again.

We will freeze immigration for five years, speed up deportation of up to a million illegal immigrants by tripling the numbers engaged in deportations, and have ‘no home no visa’ work permits to ease the housing crisis.

We will give people the vote on policing priorities

We will scrap Inheritance Tax

We will support our armed forces with more spending on equipment, military homes and medical care. We will save our threatened warships and add 25,000 more troops.

Do you have any problems with any of these? I know alot of people think there ban immigration for 5 years is considered racist by some but it in my opinion its certainly isnt.

They have traditionally supported policies and i see them as very achievable and popular.

Also there biggest policy of getting out of EU is very debateable. Im neutral on this but the EU does cost a reported 40million per day. So...

Encourage UK manufacturing that's very good. But it would be far far far more effective to do this within the EESC environment, which UKIP oppose. I doubt UKIP would ever act on this promise in a successful manner. They are to narrow minded on an international level to do so.

We will freeze immigration for five years, speed up deportation of up to a million illegal immigrants by tripling the numbers engaged in deportations, and have ‘no home no visa’ work permits to ease the housing crisis.

This is just plain stupid top say the least. What the hell is deporting immigrants and freezing immigration going to achieve? Nothing, that's what. An extremist solution to a small problem. you are just hindering progress politically, socially and economically. Xenophobia never solved anything.

We will give people the vote on policing priorities

This is very dangerous to say the least. Did someone say vigilantism and soaring crime rates? let the proffesionals handle this.

We will scrap Inheritance Tax

Fair enough, I'm for that. Or at least lower inheritance tax. But it hadly fits in with their larger plan does it?

We will support our armed forces with more spending on equipment, military homes and medical care. We will save our threatened warships and add 25,000 more troops.

More support for the military? We are fighting two wars that we are losing. Why not just pull out of them, it would be far more effective and we would not have to waste money on unwinnable wars. We wouldn't need 25,000 extra troops and expanded military medicical care if we just cut our losses and left.

Do you have any problems with any of these? I know alot of people think there ban immigration for 5 years is considered racist by some but it in my opinion its certainly isnt.

They do have a few good policies, but many of them are just plain unrealistic or rather silly (grammer school in every town? please deliver that promise without running out of money lol). Also, leaving the EU would be a mistake IMO.
