It's on PC but it's exclusive because the PC meme only apply to 360 titles. If 360 games are out on both PC and 360 then it's not exclusive but if PS3 games are available on PC and PSP it's still consider exclusives. Didn't you get the memo when you join this forum?

GOD, here we go again. People claiming Sony lost an exclusive before any hard facts are present. Here is the jist of things....

FFXIV is not full exclusive to PS3, there will be a PC version..........DUH! This is why MS is trying to crush the idea that FFXIV is "exclusive", even though MS has used the 360/PC games in there exclusive listing all the time. They must think seeing as they own majority of the computer OS's in the world that it counts as "on their system".

FFXIV would be a HUGE mistake on 360 because of...dum dum dum! 360 XBOX LIVE FEES!!!! Imagine having to pay for not only XBOX LIVE but a MMO subscription fee as well.

And last time I checked, FFXI sold just as much as a typical FF game(with millions of subscribers online) and was the only ever real competitor to WOW(also Everquest). The game had the deepest story of any MMO and anyone who has played a reasonable length of the game will tell you the same. I too was very board of FFXI when I first got it(for the PS2 mind you) but that all changed onces I formed a "linkshell" and got to lvl 10. From there it becomes an unrivaled gaming experience that is full of adventure. You just can't replicate that in any single player game.

I love the singleplayer story FFs as much as the next person, but to say FFXI was not great is down right wrong. I haven't liked what SE has been doing for quite some time but I never doubt the quality of their bread and butter main FF series.

 There is so much wrong with this post I am having a hard time trying to figure out where to start. First and foremost FFXI is already on the 360. You might not like the idea of having to pay two fees to make it work, but clearly someone is. SE had no uissues with it, not does Microsoft. Clearly it is not such a bad idea from a business perspective which is what counts for announcements.

 Second off, FFXI was never in the millions of active subscribers. Millions of copies sold is likely, but their peak in terms of active subsciptions was 600k. This was shortly before the launch of WoW and it has now fallen to the 500k range. It is speculated that it might have dropped even lower than that, but there have been no hard numbers for it coming from SE for quite a while now.

 Third, nothing has ever challenged WoW. Not even close. WoW at a million subscribers in the US a month and a half after its launch. It is now over 11 million worldwide, with its closest competitor being at around 700k (Runescape) paying subscirbers. Final Fantasy was a big MMO for the time it was released, but nothing compared to the juggernaut of WoW.

I remember reading somewhere that only xbox live silver (free) is required, and xbox owners only have to pay for the MMO subscription fee only. Please correct me if I am wrong.

Look at the buyer reviews. They say you do need to pay a live subscription for FFXI. That goes in line with what I have heard from other 360 owners who got the game.

Unless Microsoft is willing to bend their own rules yet again just to get their hands on a PS3 console exclusive....

And user reviewers can LIE about shit too:

http://reviews.teamxbox.com/xbox-360/1166/Final-Fantasy-XI/p1/

And for those inexperienced in MMOs, the game also brings a monthly subscription cost. Granted, you don’t need to have an Xbox Live Gold account (which brings with it its own price), as FFXI is playable through the free Silver account, there’s a $12.95/month cost to keep your “Content ID” active. (Buying the game brings with it a free 30-day starter subscription.)

And just incase you think IGN is incorrect, evidently Square Enix doesn't have a clue either about how Final Fantasy XI is run, but I'm sure random posters on websites know for certian

"5. Xbox Live Membership (Xbox Live Silver Membership is free)"

As I said before, requiring XBL GOLD membership for a MMO would be senseless given that XBL provides NO VALUE ADDED to the process!

@heruaman

I could be wrong about needing XBOX LIVE as well as the sub fee for the MMO, but thats what I've been told by actual 360 subscribers. They could possibly be just ill informed(much to their dismay).

@Gnizmo
Uh...I know that XI came out on 360, but it didn't do to well at all. My thoughts on this was that it was probably due to the double fee(partially corrected by heruaman, who gives some facts on it not actually requiring Gold Memb.). And I say it did challenge WOW only because very FEW subscription based MMORPGs with actual depth and high level graphics survive. Only MMO's I have ever heard of actually keeping up was Everquest and FFXI. This is not to say that they have even grazed WOW's success, just that in comparison to all the failures they have done quite well. It is a very similar situation to the PSP and DS. DS has PSP by a mile, but PSP is the ONLY handheld to EVER survive against the mighty Nintendo Handheld brand. FFXI is PSP as WOW is to DS.

If there is no subscription fee, then i might buy the game. Otherwise i could not care less about it.

Looks like PS2's XI didn't do as well as on 360

Unless Square Enix is blantantly posting wrong information on this matter, I'd say your buddies are lying about NEEDING XBL Gold.  I'm not saying they don't have XBL Gold, they just don't need it to play a MMO.  The reason WHY M$ charges a fee for XBL is because they incur the cost to maintian the system...all the developer needs to do is bring their stuff to plug in...it's painless.  With MMO, all M$ provides is to tag your account for possible Achievements.  I'd be very surprise if you needed a XBL Gold account for this, or any other MMO.
