And Reggie even said that, its becoming a red ocean now. Next E3 theyre going to embarress Sony and MS again.

Reggie comments on Natal
June 2nd, 2009 Posted in General Nintendo, News, Written by Valay

Nintendo began this console generation with the Wiimote, the first controller to feature heavy motion controls for a console. But yesterday, Microsoft showed that they will eventually launch Project Natal, which, naturally has been receiving comparisons to the Wii remote. So what is Nintendo’s stance on Natal? Reggie Fils-Aime explains:

“It’s interesting. You could make the argument that the health genre, like Wii Fit, is becoming red ocean — there’s a lot of different content coming out. You could say that in the future, that potentially active playing might be a red ocean in the future depending on what happens with our two competitors. For us, we’re making precision control a reality today. What we’re showing with Wii Sports Resort really takes the way you handle the controller to a whole new level. So for us, we’re focused on the reality of today of how to drive that in an important way within gaming. We’ll let our competitors talk about what might or might not be in the future.”

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.

I don't really know enough yet:

Nintendo, because it is real and the games are there.

If the Sony wand gets an analog stick added and they can keep a set of two wands, the PSEye, and a game for under $100 then they would win it...

The tech in the MS one is awesome, with the 2 cameras measuring perception of depth. Reading the description of driving made it sound kinda fun. But I don't see it working as a gaming peripheral, instead I think the impact of the tech goes beyond gaming.

I would cite regulation, but I know you will simply ignore it.

umm agree..nintendo wins hands down...at least 90percent of thri games uses their motion sensing lol

As for Sony and Microsoft....not for a while....Halo, Killzone, God of war using motion sensing is A BIG RISK..the level designs has to be carefully implemented....

These two giants now has to work on motion sensing and using their multi core for the AI in their games : /

their motion sensing is like Blue Ray versus Regular DVD: too early to come up with those stuff...

Nintendo simply wins here if only because it has the controllers here, now and ready to go. Nintendo will have more games which will actually use the technology. Sony and MS are going to have to do some heavy arm twisting to get companies to develop games for these controls, on the assumption that gamers are going to buy them. At best the consumer will start seeing support in 2 years, and by then its too late. Really, the whole thing came across as shameless me-too-ism on the part of Sony and Microsoft.

And you just know that while S&M are playing catch-up with WiiMotion+, Nintendo is already moving past it.

this is a horrid example because Blu-ray sales have been on the up and up and DVD on the down. Blu-ray wasn't to early, actually it hit on the eve of the HD revolution which was good timing.

IT was HUGE when it went from VHS to DVD.....it is not as it is with DVD to BLU ray.........

I work in blockbuster....and all they say is that...they wont be spending money on such an expensive device that plays blurays.....when they can just use either standard DVD or HD Dvd...

But it took a few years for that HUGE transition to occur. For the first few years, no one gave a damn about DVD either.

This battle will be even more huge....DVD..HD DVD...blue ray....triple huge

But anyways in regards to th emotion sensing....too early to tell...We all know those things are gonna be costy ;) Ps3 is costy as it is already.......Very Big Risk considering the hardcore games....

Wii does, easily, seeing tech demos of the NATAL and Sony wand, don;t indicate whether the things will actually work in games or even if they'll actually make it out this gen, NATAL is most likely to get pushed back to next gen. Wii Motion Plus actually works and will be out in a few weeks.
